My Multiplayer Military Mod

OK am playing on a larger map now, and everything is going great, i especially like all the new techs and the way they are made up, like the Military recuiting station as the ex-marine drill sergeant is talking (Full Metal Jacket) great, only bad thing i dislike so far is the double drum beat when the pop-up window for having to choose your next warrior/archer/tank, keeps bugging me. So far so good, running good.

EDIT: Do the settlers have a restriction? I couldnt build a city unless it was inside one of the blue circles. Also see attached, the three bottom ones had only a explorer and needed to be killed off?

I think the double drum beat is only after you make a building...

if you want to return to the original sounds... delete the vanilla buildings in this folder:

militarymod1.0\assets\sounds\buildings folder

however my custom buildings you would have to use any sound file editor and edit EACH custom building sound (ex. hospice.mp3) and remove it manually :crazyeye:

or if you want to remove the sound completely go to the CIV4BuildingInfo.xml file found here:

militarymod1.0\assets\XML\buildings folder

(using the example of Hospice)

find this the <ConstructSound> tagline of each of my custom buildings and change them from:

Code:
			<ConstructSound>AS2D_BUILD_HOSPICE</ConstructSound>

with this:

Code:
			<ConstructSound/>

of course you would use the custom sound :mischief:

EDIT: Do the settlers have a restriction? I couldnt build a city unless it was inside one of the blue circles.

The only restriction is that you have to have 4 plots between cities

You can make them outside the blue circles but they have to be four plots from the next city

the only exception Ive seen (a bug really but since I dont mind... I didnt attempt to fix it)

is that small islands (2-3 plots) dont follow the rule if they invade another cities plot area if that city is on the continent while the new city is on an island near the coast :crazyeye: (meaning 2 cities can be closer than four plots if one is on an island and the other is on the continent!)

Also see attached, the three bottom ones had only a explorer and needed to be killed off?

the only thing I could think of is that when you started a new game you had "Complete Kills" checked off where all the units from a rival civ must be killed for the civilization to be destroyed (that was an addition of patch 1.61)

I dont think I edited/added that feature to my mod

Thanks for the feedback and I hope that helps ;)

I beg to differ on the settler one, i tried different areas and their was no town or anything around just the enemy borders is all, but i tried in the spaces where there were like two spaces from borders around and still could not build. But as soon as a blue circle was there poof i could build? weird, i guess.

it is weird because I can build out of the "recommended" blue circles

I know that the 4 plot rule applies diagonally so you need more space between cities....

can you post/email a saved game so that I can check it out...?

I loaded your game and place a settler between your Atlanta City and New York City...

I purposely placed him between the between the two blue circles

I attached the screenshots to show you what I did.

The first Screenshot is between the two "recommended" Blue Circles
The settler is not in the blue circles.

I then made the City San Francisco

The last two Screenshots show the city

It is not in the recommended blue circles

It works fine on my computer I dont know why it's not working on yours

I have had some gliches before on a different MOD, it was due to a download bug, let me delete your mod, then redownload, that worked before.

ok let me know how it works...

FYI:

I think in about a week (or less depending on my schedule) I will be releasing a newer version to correct some of the mistakes and I'll probably be adding at least 2 new national wonders....:mischief:

Mod Version 1.02 has been released !:)

3 New National Wonders Added :D

Some Tweaks to Balance Mod out better! :mischief:

See post #1 for Info and Download Info ;)

NOTE: All Info Posts have been updated too :p

Already d/l'ing, thx, when you figure out how to change it to Warlords, let me know, i just made a scenario called Shogun (based on Andrew_Jays) Feudal Japan, and wanted to convert it to warlords. And btw, great MOD and it keeps getting better and better, thx.

Does this MOD work well in Hotseat MP format? My brother and I always play hotseat while drinking ourselves into oblivion at my little "Pub" in the basement.

We currently play Sevomod 3.2D with Gir's add-on loaded on top. This MOD intrigues me becasue it focuses on military. I'm tempted to try it.

Very well done!

Last night I loaded this MOD. For some reason I could not get any multiplayer games to work. I especially am interested in the Hotseat MP game. I kept getting a CTD with the "send error/don't send error" popup. In fact, anytime I tried a multiplayer game it would crash. When I tested a singleplayer game it worked fine. Very strange considering this is suppose to be a multiplayer MOD. Anyways, this MOD looks great, but for the time being I just can't use it. Is there anything I can try? I would love to get this working. Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks for your time!

Warlords may not be for a while....

I am in the middle of moving/selling my house and I have to divide attention :crazyeye:

I maybe able to make small tweaks but that one may take a while :(

well anyway I'll let you know

Im not sure about the hotseat... never played that... I will test it out.... but it may be a little bit...

I know it works in LAN and Direct IP (I play my MP games with my bro on both) :goodjob:

I have not idea why it wouldnt work for you

I am not sure how Hotseat works (in the coding I mean) so I will have to run some tests.... but give me some time.... to test... kinda busy right now (see previous posts)

yeah I made it for MP so this is odd....

what version are you using? (this is for Vanilla 1.61 Patch NOT for warlords)

Are you running any mod components (files in the custom assets) with my mod? (It may be interfering with my mod)

Like I said I'll have to test out hotseat... and see if I can find the problem...

thx for the feedback :goodjob:

I'll try to test this out and hopefully have an answer for you soon :mischief:

Ok I tried it with 2 human players (Washington and Hitler) on a standard map.. .with prince settings and conquest/time victory...

and it works :goodjob:

I dont know why it's not working for you :dunno:

what game settings did you use?

(as posted previously)

have you any other mod components/custom assets running with my mod?

what patch version are you using?

does it time out or CTD when loading game?

(sorry if this seems redundant but I am trying to cover all the bases :mischief: )

what civs did you use?

any other modifications you using?

I know some people reported MP problems with sevo's mod... are there any of his mod components in your custom assets files?

let me know how it goes... and I'll try to fix it for you.... :crazyeye:

thx again for your feedback and comments ;)

Officer Reene,
First off, thanks for looking into my issues. I am running with 1.61. I do not load any other MODs when playing yours. When you ask "have you any other mod components/custom assets running with my mod", how do I tell if I am or not. All I know is that I select Advanced from the Main screen, Load A MOD, select your MPMilitaryMOD (V1.02), and then restart the game with your MOD loaded. After we're done selecting our Civs and options I then select LAUNCH. The screen then goes black with the Windows Error popup (send/don't send error report). Let me know if I can give you any more info. I do have other MODs on my machine like Sevomod and GIR's add-on, but I don't mix them with yours. Yours has a separate folder in my /Mods directory like the rest of them. Hmmmm.

I'm just concerned about your Custom Assets comments. Hmmmm again....

hhhmmm well if SEVO MOD and GIR add-on are in the mod directory and are not loaded ...well they shouldnt interfere with my mod...

(what is GIR add on? anyway... is it a separate mod from SEVO? what does it do?)

Custom Assets is a folder (check your main directory ...should be called _CIV4CustomAssets (Shortcut) where you place xml/python/etc files that you want to override your originals... (they work with mods unless your mod has the same file - then the mod file overrides the customassets folder)

If you (or your brother) has not put any xml/phthon/etc files in there then that should not be a problem either....

another idea is that you may want to clear your cache out.... and see if that works....

the cache folder is located in a DIFFERENT directory than your main CIV4 Directory (Dont ask me why CIV4 game does this - it makes no sense :crazyeye: )

the path to the cache is (usually):

C:\Documents and Settings\[user/login name]\Application Data\My Games\Civ4\cache folder

NOTE: [user/login name] is your Windows login name

erase the files in that cache and run CIV4 again... then try to load my mod...

FYI: you can create a shortcut that automatically loads the mod from the start....

just create another shortcut from your CIV4 shortcut

then edit that new shortcut by 2nd clicking(not the primary click) on it and scroll down to "properties"

Primary click on "properties"

then look for a line for that says "target"

add this like there:

"C:\Civilization4\Civilization4.exe -mod= MPMilitaryMod1.02"

(include quotes - I think you just have to add -mod= MPMilitaryMod1.02" to that command line

and now you should be able to load up my mod (or if you follow the steps you can make a shortcut for each mod - just replace my mod with another mod name :) ) by clicking that shortcut

(you can create multiple shortcuts for each different mod if you want :D)

or you can load up the mod by editing the CivilizationIV.ini (a shortcut to it call _CIV4Config should be in your main directory)

just open that file up and search for this line:

Code:
; Specify a Mod folder (Mods\Mesopotamia), '0' for none
Mod = Mods\MPMilitaryMod

and when you start up the game it automatically loads that mod all the time

another thought...

have you modified any of the data in the CivilizationIV.ini? unknown if that would interfere with my mod... but you never know...:mischief: let me know if you did...

anyway I think the cache might be your better bet......

hope that helps ;)

Thanks so much ! I will try a few things out.

One thing I just tried is uninstalling Blue Marble and I'm able to play in hotseat MP. Very strange.

you should have said that in the first place :p

I hear Blue Marble interferes with alot of mods :D

let me know what you think about the game once you start playing :goodjob:

Yep, that seemed to be the problem. When I uninstall Blue Marble everything seems to work fine now.
