Fired up by the member who came up with the plan that could win at Civ (I Think I Broke Civ V), I thought I may try a different strategy.

My nefarious plan- should I stick to it- is to be a Barbarian killer.

To do this I have decided to follow the policy of Honor right through and disregard the rest. With my Capital - playing as Nebby- churn out a virtual production line of bowmen and composite archers.

I thought with the culture from killing barbs would help me get the policies quickly enough, and the gold from raiding camps and (eventually) killing barbarians would enable me to buy settlers.

To assist I am playing on a huge map and have raging barbarians. I also used the mod to gain not limit experience from fighting barbarians.

So far, the result has been mixed- playing at King level, Continents plus and limiting Civs to 9. I am on a medium sized continent with Parachuti with Washington on a small continent nearby. For some reason Parachuti hates me and keeps attacking, even though I have few cities.

My units are very experienced and handle his easily enough. However, if you get caught out and lose a highly experienced unit they are difficult to replace. I am finding destroying Parachuti's forces and the barbarians I can concentrate on keep me pretty well up with gold.

I get the feeling though that Civ unbothered by war will eventually triumph in a scientific victory.

Could be an all nighter.

A couple of ways to make this strategy work better:

1) Consider playing as Aztecs. Their UA stacks with the Honor opener (I think)

2) Consider playing as France. Their UA allows you to get extra culture from puppeted cities, which is essentially free culture since puppets don't count toward SPs needing additional culture.

3) Consider playing as Germay. Their UA allows you to actually recruit barbarians who die in a barb camp, and your big army costs less gold per turn.

4) Consider playing as China. Their GG bonus is higher and their UU is a monster.

5) Consider playing as the Songhai. Their UA allows you to get more gold than usual when clearing barb camps.

There's a lot of ways this could go, actually. You can go for culture (Aztecs, France), for gold (Songhai), for a massive army (Germany), or lots of other things when you farm barbs and what not. The main thing that makes this really viable for you, though, is the unlimited-EXP-from-barbs mod. Without that mod, you're looking at just two promotions from farming barbs. Even without the mod, you could farm the barbs for culture, gold, or extra units, but with it you do have a good chance of having a good army without having to fight other civs or build barracks and what not.

I'll try it a few ways but it has been interesting so far though Germany seems a fair way ahead with techs.

However, I have run out of barbarians and Parachuti has made peace so one source of gold and culture has dried up.

I don't think Nebby was a great selection. Although the Bowman is okay in the first moves, I tend to head straight for composite archers anyway.

I may give Germany a run next. I don't usually play as Germany so it could be fun.

Germany is a good choice, IMHO. But for what you said you were doing, the Songhai might be better, because if you want to buy settlers, well, the Songhai can get more gold per barb camp they conquer.

An odd-ball thing you can try that I've given a go once is go Polynesia, and upgrade a bunch of their UUs all the way up, which will be easier doing the barb-farming that you're doing with the EXP mod. Their UU are great if you can get them upgraded all the way along, because they have a -10% effect on adjacent enemy units, and if you put a GG with your guys (+10%), it's like having a 20% bonus before adding in any other promos.
