Am I the only person who thinks Civ IV is the Edsel of games and a complete rip-off?
Its screen appearance reminds me of cheap Xmas wrapping paper and it proceeds at the pace of cold molasses.
The manual is as cheap as they could make it, almost unreadable.
A complete waste of money.

Doubt you are the only one, but I have not given up as of yet. It is not a complete rip, thought. It does have some glaring issues that have nothing to do with the fun or lack of it.

THe manual is as cheap as they could make it? No it isn't, because then it wouldnt have been 200 pages long.

Can you be a little more specific about why you think civ4 is "a completer rip-off". You mention a few things you dont like about the game but dont really offer any arguments as to why its a complete failiure. Posting a thread like this on a site dedicated to Civ FANatics seems a bit suspicious to me. I smell a troll.

As cheap as they could make it would be no manual at all, which seems to be the trend these days.
As far as graphics and gameplay <sarcasm>no one here has ever expressed that opinion</sarcasm>

A Russell Crow(e) level of opinion.

Try a Paradox game... they have no manuals.

Since when? All the ones I've gotten have manuals. But seriously, if you want a bad manual try BF2/BFVietnam. 18 pages! And to the OP, have you seriously not noticed any of the "I hate Civ4" posts, or are you just trolling?

My money says he is trolling but, then again, his trolling has been a success because people are posting her.....wait, oh SH*T, I'm posting here!! Dammit, when will I learn?! :mischief:

Oh and, BTW, I think this is the best version of civ EVER made-since Civ1-in spite of some minor bug issues (like the memory leak). It works at a pretty decent pace on my computer-even with the entire map (large terra) revealed. For $80, the entertainment value I have already received in just a few weeks is greater than I would receive for any other form of entertainment IMO. A movie, for instance, will set you back almost $20 Australian, and lasts an average of 1.5 to 2 hours-making about $10 per hour of entertainment (assuming it was a GOOD movie, of course). I have already played Civ4 for a total of over 12 hours (all incredibly FUN), meaning that I have spent around $8/hour-and falling. Oh, and don't even get me started on Rise of Nations-$60 bucks for a game I got bored of in under 2.5 hours :(.

I hope that’s not meant as a slight to paradox, you would be hard put to have a manual for a paradox game that could cover every aspect of their games play, in fact for me half the fun is discovering what you have being doing wrong and lets not forget their commitment to adapting and improving the game play as its life progresses. A lot of companies could learn a lesson or two from paradox and paradoxically I have returned to playing HOI2 because of my disappointment with CIV4.But I am very fickle.

What are you talking about.
I think the appearance is ugly and garish. with the dead black screen.
I said the game was very slow [on a 3ghz machine with 1 gig memory]
i said the manual is cheap, the thumbnails which purport to tell one what to do are unreadable.
I said it was a price rip-off.
How much more specific?
And it is not a troll, it is a legitimate opinion. Or is the forum reserved for sycophants?

You are being labelled a troll, sir, because rather than posting your opinions-which are perfectly valid as far as they go-at one of the existing 'I hate Civ4' threads, you instead decided to start up a whole new one of your own-clearly you would not have done this unless you were looking for attention-of the worst kind. In my books, that constitutes being a troll.

From a Meg Ryan would be. Quite vapid.

and this statement confirms you are a troll, because your sole argument appears to be the cheap and easy put down (note, though, that sorceress was equally guilty of trolling in this regard).

It so happens I have not seen any of these threads. And if, as you say, there are existing "I hate civIV threads" rather than just one, why are not all those people "trolls".
And I accept that YOU have had hours of fun since school finished. But I have not enjoyed this version.

Maybe you should turn your screen on then :mischief:

Sorry, couldn't resist. Several people like the Blue Marble Terrain mod. Lots of people seem to be using it, and think it makes the game look alot prettier.

Have you got the latest patch, and is your virtual memory set up correctly?

Most new games don't even have any manual at all, and cost the same, if not more. This game cost me a little under £20. For me this is 3-4 hours work. Now personally, I would give 3-4 hours of my time working in a shop to buy this game (and I supose I have, in a way...)

Why was that last sentance neccessary? You could have defended yourself just well enough, without throwing that in...

Ok... so I go to Aussies profile, and notice that he is in fact 32. Very intelligent comment. Oh dear, oh dear.
