Why are five luxs and a marketplace only giving me five happy citizens?

I think it's because every lux makes only content people happy. After running out of content people, the next lux makes an unhappy guy content and again the next makes this content guy happy and so on...:crazyeye:

I think it fits to the nine happy faces in your lux box...

Interesting, never realized this. So an unhappy guy takes 2 luxes to get happy. Further, if Buce was to raise the lux to 10%, that would now gain 2 extra happy faces? Or 3?

I haven't got access to the game atm, but I'm fairly sure that I've got a size five town with five happy faces and no market.

But maybe a temple, or other content making buildings, or military police?

The combinatin of such buildings & luxs is best of course, as a temple & a lux in combination makes an unhappy citizen happy...

I'm a Republic, so no MPs. A temple is a possibility, though; IIRC it's a border town, and I did build a few to grab tiles.

Base commerce of 29 = 3 happy faces at 10% lux. This, of course, would make one unhappy citizen happy and another content, for a total of 6 happy, 1 content and 3 unhappy.

This sounds right to me actually. I think it might work out easier (if I'm correct) to think of luxes as raising contendness by a point. So, with 9 "raises" from luxuries, we have the original content citizen getting happy and then 4 other citizens going up two levels... from unhappy to happy. 100% science, but you're building banks???

Yes, that is correct. You need either one content face and one happy face or two happy faces to make a laborer happy. What you have is one content from the level (emp and up) and nine happy faces from luxes. Only enough to make five laborers happy.

Now if you could somehow lay hands on JS Bach's for two additional content faces ...

you don't miss much, do you Spoonwood; actually, they were pre-builds for Knights as I was about to trade for Chivalry.

Now that's strategic thinking!
