My units don't prompt me when they have moves and my cities don't popup?

I'm playing a multiplayer LAN game and options are set to defaults. However, I have a problem in that my units and cities do not prompt me with orders on where to move or what to build. Also, when I have military unit exploring, when they are allowed to move (have movement points of 1 or more) they don't promt me to move. I have to manually search and click for them.

What's the problem?
