Is there something wrong with my game? I have noticed that there are no Zulus in my Civilization game! Instead, I have Tokugawa Ieyasu of the Japanese in their place. I only noticed this when I learned about the PC Windows version, and saw that the version did not have the Japanese. I don't know why this was changed. I guess it doesn't really matter but did I get a wrong copy???

I'm sorry, I don't quite understand... Maybe it's a pirate copy!

No it's not pirated. I got it new as a birthday present. My mom bought it a store called Electronics Boutique.

It has all the regular civilizations, but instead of the Zulus it has Japan. Also, the Earth map is different than the one on this site (in the Civ1 section).

I don't know what else there is to say. It's got good music, a good storyline, and it plays ok. I can win by conquest and get to Alpha Centuri. Nothing ever seemed strange about my game until I started reading this site!

Electronics Boutique is actually Electronic Boutique... at least here in New Zealand..

I'm in New Jersey but that could be right. I haven't been there in like years maybe I forgot the name exactly.

But does anyone have a clue as to why my version is so different? Even the opening game screen and graphics are different with my game (in my opinion, better), but I'll put some screenshots up to see.

Ok here are some screenshots to follow. Here's the tribe selection screen. Notice Japan but no Zulus. There is no way to change the names, but you can change the name of the leader.

Next up, the main game screen. The graphics are different (in my opinion, better) than the other screenshots I've seen on this site so I don't know what's going on. Anyway, see Japan in the upper left.

Here's the screen when you conquer all of the enemies (I don't know if it looks any different).

The title screen looks more or less the same, but my game has fewer menu options for some reason.

The city view looks normal, but different. I don't understand.

The city window looks the same but with a different background color. Shouldn't it be blue???

Two other things that my game has that I have NEVER seen on this site. SO I am like, totally confused here. 1. When you start a new game, you watch a story about how a Goddess comes to you at night in a dream and makes you leader of your civilization.

2. When you right-click on a terrain square a window comes up telling you about it. Also, a different music plays.

If someone could help me out and tell me what version I have I'd appreciate it! I don't get it because it says Civilization by Microprose but IT IS NOTHING LIKE THE CIVILIZATION I'VE SEEN ON THIS SITE!

...

I don't know what to say... But. Goddess?? GODDNESS? OMFGodness..
It's a DOS game right?

, this pretty much looks like some kind of console version I suppose, it says licensed by Nintendo in one of the shots after all... never knew such a version of Civ existed though.

Who's the leader of the Japs?

Those screen shots look like photograph of the monitor? Is that true. As I look again I can see what looks like the light from your flash.

What was the distribution medium? floppies 5" or 3 1/2", CD
Just to clarify. Your are running on a PC , with what Windows, DOS?

OR

Is this the Sid Meier's Civilization (Super Nintendo) version 1994-1995 ?

I recognize this version it is definitly the super nintendo version. A while back I tried this version and it was very slow. :(

It's the super Nintendo version guys. No floppy disks required.

Yah... Definitely the SNES version. I didn't like it as much as the PC version, mostly because of a lack of keyboard support.

I... also... thought the goddess thing was a little... goofy. :P

It never occured to me that the Super NES version should be so... different. I like it better though. It has better graphics in my opinion, and the music is nice.

Man was I ever confused!!!

Tokugawa Ieyasu, from late 1500s I think

I should play against the Japanese, to see if they match up to the Zulus. I wonder if they were substitutes (for Nintendo, obviously), or if they have different startegies.

1542–1616. His victory at Sekigahara in 1600 allowed him to reunify the country and set up the Tokugawa Shogunate, the regime that subesquently ruled Japan until the Meiji Restoration in 1867.

I just thought I'd browse this section of the forums just to remember my days of playing Civ1 and had a good laugh reading this :p

I never knew there was a NES version of Civ? - LOL

When I played Civ a long time ago, I would play all night and my parents would get really upset with me. When they tell me to go to bed, I'd continue playing games on my NES. If I had Civ on NES, that would have totally ruined me for life

That version looks neat, from what I can see with the screenshots
And I love the "Goddess" idea giving you control hehe -- it fits really well with most of the Nintendo games I've played over the years :p

Brings back memories
Thanks for sharing :)
