Myst IV Revelation - Forget the first game, this is nothing like it.

Remember the loneliness of the original Myst, with seemingly nothing to do unless you put your brain to work? Fear no more with the third sequel--Myst IV Revelation instead feels more like an actual movie (as in "theatrical release") than a slideshow. Indeed, the series has long since abandoned the slideshow format, favoring instead a 360-degree node-based system beginning with Myst III Exile. The intro movies will more than tell you that.

Everything MOVES--there is a reason this game takes up two DVDs and 3.5 GB for minimum installation. Every single node has video incorporated into just about every nook and cranny.

Please tell me you'll be getting this. Otherwise I will kill you.

...

No interest, I take it?

First I've heard of it. I was disappointed with Uru - didn't even finish it actually, but I've been a huge fan of the immersive nature of the Myst series games. I'll definitely have to look into this game.

That's pretty sad if now is the first time. Ubisoft really sucks when it comes to marketing Myst...this one is more like the first few games and not Uru, although there are some story elements that set it up.

Edit: All riiiiight, the Penny Arcade are going nuts over this. :D

Cyan's based in my city (Spokane, WA, USA), if they still exist. I'm still trying to beat Myst 3. You said DVDs, right? I'm not gonna get it if it is on DVD, since I'm running conventional CDs. I liked the movement system of Myst 3. Any hints on 3?

I have never ever played any of the Myst games. I don't really think they're my kind of game either.

*hides from CivCube* :p

Oh yes, Cyan Worlds is still up and running. Barely though, as Uru's failure to sell well hurt them a lot. They're still making games, though.

If you want help on Exile, just PM me with more specifics or post here.

Edit: Plus, last I heard, DVD drives can be bought for $30.

I've been thinking about getting Myst IV, but the problem is, I haven't played any of the prequels. What should I do? Would I have to play any of them to understand the Myst IV storyline?

Thad

Actually, that is a feature they have been advertising. There is no need to play any of the previous games. :)

Ah, just found a place to get Myst III: Exile. Will probably buy it soon.

Just don't be mad when you find Exile packaged with Myst 4. :D

Aye, got Exile today. Great looking game, would you say it is long?

Nah. If you're thinking the length of an RPG, not really. I'd say you may get about fifteen to twenty hours out of it.

Arh, through it now, and I'm dumbfounded...

Probably the (in that order) most beautiful, most dreamlike, most imaginative, most challenging, saddest, scariest and most touching gaming experience I've had. Damn, it even beats Grim Fandango at that! :king:

I love the Myst games. :) And I loved the movement in Uru -- is that retained in Revelations? The only quibble I had with Uru is that the puzzles were often a little *too* open-ended, and too many solutions seemed rather ad hoc, with no real logical way to get from A to B. God, it was gorgeous, though. Even my non-game-playing boyfriend kept poking around the computer when I was playing, oohing and aahing at the scenery.

I'm planning to buy myself Revelations for Christmas.

@Renata: Revelation continues where Exile left off, and has the same kind of gameplay. Uru was meant to be a spin-off of the Myst series. Cyan Worlds worked on Uru as an MMOG while Ubisoft Montreal worked on Revelation. Uru bombed, so we'll have to see what Cyan will do next.

@Thad: Glad you liked it. :D I still have to finish one more Age before I can get to the end but Sirrus' Age is so nice and pretty. :D
