n0x-02 -- OCC Cultural Victory

Don't forget to build the windmills while the Tower is going up.

Great turns, Conroe! ... so does London count towards the cultural victory, or does it have to be 3 Indian cities?

EDIT: Who's up, Ruff_Hi?

Awesome turns Conroe! :woohoo:

Another thing, you'll notice where the score is displayed it'll show both Gandhi's score and the tech he is researching. In the diplo screen you can ask him to switch his research to whatever we want him to research. Also remember (I believe) that techs cost 50% more now, so we'll need Gandhi to help us research.

Found this roster - is it still in the right order?

Roster Check:
n0xie - MIA
Conroe - Just Played
ruff-hi - up
Methos - On Deck
ChrTh

If it is right - this is my 'got it'.

What happened to the hammers we had invested in SOL?
I'm assuming they will get converted to cash when Gandhi finishes the SoL. In about 3 turns, unless my memory is failing me. (or maybe 1 turn?) During your turns! :D

It is my understanding that it does not count. However, having no experience with the variant, I am not 100% sure. I suggest that we go on the assumption that it must be 3 of Gandhi's cities that hit legendary status. If we are wrong, then we will win just that much sooner ...

That was quick...

We're playing an OCC Culture SG game and had a question. Since we have a PA with Gandhi does Gandhi have to have all three culture cities, or can Gandhi have two and we have one of them? I believe its the latter, but just want to make sure. Thanks.

Methos

You can have one and him 2.
Good luck. What a fun way to play!

Conroe: You're correct, I didn't check the effect on health. However, I think it would work as follows:
2 Forest Hills = 1 Health
Windmill them (chopping the forests) you get same number of hammers, extra food and extra commerce. Since there's 2 hills you'd get 2 Bread which would counteract the 1 Bread lost due to losing 1 Health.
Assuming you worked those tiles.

Things are starting to get interesting. We finally have more than 1 city that we can look at. Pity we can only 'play' with one of them. Radio came in - we can now build the ETower. I decide to change right off so that we get value for money. I also plan to windmill ChrTh's hills. Ok, open London, scroll down to the ETower and ... and ... ??? ... it's greyed out. Hmmn - I must be buiding it in another of my cities. Funny - I thought I only had the one. I look through Gandhi's cities and find that he is building it. Ok, fair enough. Here is the city that he is building it in ...

Any suggestions re that? I don't windmill, instead I build a temple, finish Scotland Yard and put zero hammers into a worker - getting sick of only having one.

We pop and sleep another artist. So does Gandhi - I will try and track were it goes so that we know which city he adds the culture too. I start looking around Delhi next round - no artist - where did it go. I cannot find it - then I see the message "Gandhi starts Golden Age". Where is that damn phone when you need it!

We both research biology together then Gandhi starts on MassMedia. I decide that I actually want some defense so I research Steel (cannons). I cannot see where I can ask Gandhi to swap - can someone post a screenie of that.

I also cancel all of our deals with Gandhi (don't need them anymore). I then buy his cows or sheep (health anyway) for 40 Gold per turn. Hopefully, this will allow him to increase his research to 100%. We are still running in the green and we can always ask for a lump sum if we need it. Gandhi also gives us some yellowcake.

Here is a picture of our city ...

First, you can see what Gandhi is researching by looking at his score. Currently it states he’s researching Mass Media.

Click on Gandhi and open up diplomacy with him. See the “Let’s Discuss Something Else…” in the pic below:

View attachment 127773

Once you click on that notice the “We Would Like You To Research…” statement in the pic below:

View attachment 127775

After clicking it you’ll see a list of possible technologies that Gandhi can research, as shown here:

Hope that helps everyone.

Edit: Added in the second image.

Well DUH :p

;)

Man, can we tell Gandhi not to build Eiffel? We could build it a lot faster ...

We should give Gandhi our extra fish, he could use the :health: -- I checked, we can give it to him and it does help.

Delhi is going to hit Legendary culture in like 25 30 turns.

watch out, it's a lurker!

I'm actually just posting to ask what color/transparency settings ruff is using - I really like it :)

But while I'm here, here's two things that might help you out (in case you didn't know):

1) AFAIK you can't use great artists for great works on Gandhi's cities. You can, however, retire them as super specialists - if you dropped your 5 great artists into Madras (for example) right now it'd have close to 300 culture when Rock & Roll finishes, and more when the Eiffel Tower comes in. This might be better than gifting them to Gandhi, and it being hit or miss whether they go to the right town.

2) Regarding the Eiffel tower, you can chop Gandhi's forests for him... it might help a bit, and you have another worker coming along.

Good luck, I think you're gonna win this one! :goodjob:

@armstrong - that is a great tip re super specialists. We should study up on Gandhi's cities and try and determine the best for culture. It is a function of culture producing buildings, specialists and commerce (assuming we can get Gandhi to go 100% commerce).

I like the idea of chopping those forests - serve Gandhi right for not letting us build it. Better get a worker over there quick smart - the trip itself will prob take 10 turns.

Re the colours - civscale - see my sig.

74 Turns! I wonder if it will be built before the game is over. I guess for future reference, we need to build the Eiffel Tower before signing the PA. n0xie left that little tidbit out ...

At the end of my turns, I went through all of Gandhi's cities and noted the culture situation. It is in my turn report. To summarize, Madras has the most culture and cpt of any of his cities (other than Delhi). However, he was building a Cathedral in Bangalore which may change things up a bit.

Also, if we switch to Free Speech, we could then ask Gandhi to do the same thing. After 5 turns, we can switch back to Beaucracy. Hopefully he stays with Free Speech and the culture boost.

I saw that list - nice job of putting it to gether - but we also need to factor in commerce as a source of culture (assuming we can get Gandhi to go 100% culture at some stage).

Turn 0 -- 1750 AD

I don't trust a lot of our neighbors, so I'm going to have Gandhi & Us focus on Military techs. First, though, I trade him our extra fish. Several of his cities are now healthy. I also have him switch to Steel research, due in 2.

I keep London on the Worker build.

Turn 1 -- 1755 AD

Worker comes in, start on a Redcoat. Send the worker out to lumber.

Turn 2 -- 1760 AD

Gandhi completes the Kremlin.

Steel comes in, start Steam Power. Ask Gandhi to do it with us, turns drop from 10 to 3

Eiffel Tower still due in 30

Turn 3 -- 1765 AD

Gandhi gives us a Hit Musical  ... Broadway is in for him (Calcutta, I believe)

Cannon > Cannon

Turn 4 -- 1770 AD

Cannon > Cannon

Turn 5 -- 1775 AD

Cannon > Worker

Steam Power is in. Start Railroad, due in 6 (later it jumps to 5) with Gandhi's help. We have Coal in our borders!

Turn 6 -- 1780 AD

Worker > Worker

Gandhi's golden age is over.

Turn 7 -- 1785 AD

Gandhi gives us a Hit Single, Rock 'n' Roll is in.

Worker > Worker. Yeah, I know it's a lot of workers, but ours are so damn slow. I want us to get railroaded pretty quickly.

Turn 8 -- 1790 AD

Worker > Wall Street

Our cash at 100% is down to +6 gpt. Due in 9.

Coal's online.

Turn 9 -- 1795 AD

HC demands Chemistry. I turn him down.

St. Patrick is born in London. I don't merge him yet, because we still haven't built the Taoist shrine and I'm wondering if now would be a good time to do so.

Turn 10 -- 1800 AD

Catherine completed Versailles!

Ok, Railroad is in, I start Railing the usual suspects. Gandhi and I start Assembly Line, it's due in 5. Now, whenever we research something, we always finish it first. Therefore, hopefully, we'll be able to build Pentagon. We need to cash rush Wall Street the turn before Assembly Line comes in, and then hopefully we'll have first dibs on Pentagon.

Ok, that's it for these turns. Here's the save for Conroe:
