Thanks to @Kheznik for a bigger picture of the new leader.
I think the popular consensus is this is going to be Lautauro for the Mapuche. The border colors also appear to be light blue on dark blue which would make since with their flag colors. If this is true it's certainly going to be an interesting pick.

I am really surprised this poll lacks Cherokee (and people rarely mention them on forums).

They are and were one of the biggest Native American groups, have lived in cities, were good at adapting European tech (they started releasing their own newspaper for example) etc...

A downside to using them is that their leadership (including John Ross) sold out their people's best interest to move to Oklahoma, with many dying on the "trail of tears". If we need to pick a Southeastern Native American people, I prefer the Choctaw or Creek/Muscogee.

I've added Cherokee to this list. Originally I didn't add the Cherokee because the Shawnee were on the list and those civilisations were right next to each other on the North American map.

To be honest I do not know much about native American history or the unique cultures between these different groups. It's one of the reasons why i set up this thread actually to learn more from others. But in Civ 5 I loved playing the Iroquois and the reason that I suggested them and created a design for them was because they were a united confederation of different native American civs. I liked this idea so I thought the Iroquois, a united group of peoples, would have more chance of being picked than a small stand alone native American civ. I mean look at this map there are just so many!

Post classical would be ideal considering the new mechnics:

Maya:
- Tabasco
- Leauge of Mayapan
- Kiche

Tlingit/Haida maybe to replace the Cree in civ 7?

I definitely want Maya and Inca and voted for them (because no-brainer).

I would like to see Muisca too a lot. I would be happy with the Mapuche as well (since it seems they're going to be added as well).

I think we need a southwestern native American civ, like Apache, Navajo or Pueblo, right now i prefer Apache with Geronimo i think. Then in the last expansion pack, we can maybe have the Iroqouis or Cherokee or something like that. (just Eastern native American civ). Taino could be a nice civ too add as well.

Southwestern has to be the Comanche and their allies the Kiowa and Wichita. They were the power in that region. Comancheria stretched from Mexico to Southern Kansas south to north and from mid-Texas to eastern New Mexico east to west. They raided farther than that. They declared formalish war on Mexico and pretty much destroyed Mexico's ability to make war in Northern Mexico, part of the reason the US had such an easy time in the Mexican-American war. They were pretty much the most powerful native tribe during the mid-1800s with only a cholera epidemic greatly reducing their numbers making it so they had to capitulate to the reservations.

The problem with this poll is, it includes two obligatory mainstays, Inca and Maya. Everybody wants Inca and Maya most, it's obvious :p The fun is with choosing among many less known civs...

I voted for Lakota, Apache and Shoshone. Because I think - if we are going to get two North American tribes, one of them is going to be forest (Cree in 6, Iroquis in 5) and another plain or desert (Shoshone in 5). Also, I loved Shoshone, Comanche are my second favorite tribe after Iroquis, and I have a great sentiment for american great plains.

This would also be the easiest way to diversify themes and gameplay of two different NA tribes in game.

So with the new expansion we can expect the inclusion of more wonders. I thought that at least one of these wonders could be a Native American construction. I would suggest the Crazy Horse memorial. It's still being constructed and funded by the Native American community and apparently will not be completed in our lifetime but the final work looks stunning and would look great on the map. If anyone has any ideas for a Native American wonder please offer suggestions on this thread. I know it's difficult as these Civs are so connected with Nature but feel free to get creative.

I didn't know about this project! Thanks!

Regarding the Pacific Northwesterners, I posted a set of abilities for the Haida (including a Totem/Crest pole that allows an additional pantheon choice for each city) in the pinned civ design thread. The subsequent discussion has some good ideas for leaders/alternate abilities, and if you look over that thread more broadly, you'll find a lot of other interesting ideas for pre-colonial American civs.
I’m a big fan of your design for the Haida. Although I would make the Sea canoe a Naval Raider and have it upgrade into the privateer. It would be cool letting them have access to Naval raiders so early, and how you designed the Sea Canoe makes it sound like a Naval Raider anyway! :-) just a thought

It would also be nice to give Native North American Civs like the Cree a a different skin design. At the moment they are shared with the Aztecs and Mapuche which is silly because Cree swordsman and pikemen are wearing jaguars on their heads. The musket men also need a re skin as they all look generically European at the moment. In general I think a future update needs more unit variation just like they did a great job in giving more place variation in the last update.

Absolutely agree.
