Natural Wonder Starting Bias?

Not too hard apparently. I recently asked this question myself on the Mods subforum, and a really helpful guy responded. Here is the thread:

Thanks! :goodjob: On my next game, the city states won't be hogging the natural wonders.

Now if only there was a way to tell city states to either form on a river or well away from one and not be one hex away from them.

I recently started a fairly standard map (Continents, Difficulty 4) playing as Spain. Although I was on the coast, the only resources near me were 2 Stone and 1 Ivory. However, 2 turns exploring revealed that Mt Sinai was literally within 3 tiles of Madrid. Hence it wasn't long before I was generating a whopping +16 :c5faith: Faith, and subsequently bossing it on the Religion front.

I've never started so close to a natural wonder before - is this Starting Bias particular to Spain? Or did I just get rather lucky?

Very lucky, I would say, I played a lot as Spain and never managed to get a natural wonder close to my capital. The other cities, of course, I tried to settle close to natural wonders. Now, every time I find one early in the game I regret the fact I'm not playing as Spain any longer :)

If I were to disable the Starting Bias, this would make the AI a little more equal to my Noob game play?

just to note there are usually 5 wonder per map I think on standard (could be wrong). so if your on continents your pretty much guaranteed 2 or 3 on your continent (Guessing they are equally spread ) and seeing as there's only 4 civs nearby your gonna find them pretty fast :) every continents game I've play I found a NW super fast

it can completely screw over AI's like the Celts, slow down the Inca, slow down Egypt, for just a few examples of AI who have terrain unique abilities. i only threw Egypt in there because often times desert starts are really powerful.

While on the other hand, you would probably help the AIs with Jungle start bias.

Also, Egypt doesn't have a Desert starting bias. Arabia & Morocco do.

Egypt instead gets an avoid jungle & avoid forest start.
