Perhaps something for a mod or expansion.

I think that Natural Wonders of the World as a unique tile resource would be quite fun if they were handled properly.

EDIT: More below.

It would be great, kind of like a victory point except with more bonuses than normal, and it would be great for a real world map.

Perhaps natural wonders of the world could grant other bonuses. Small culture bonuses for example, or scientific bonuses. I don't think they should be too powerful, but unique instead. They should also be spaced well appart from each other and from each civilization starting point. Perhaps later on in the game, facilities could be built on top of natural wonders to grant more of a bonus.

This is just one possibility.

Add these on top of the standard tile bonuses (except Grand Canyon).

Grand Canyon: 0 Food, gold or production. 2 culture. Found in desert.
Great Barrier Reef: 1 science. Found on shorelines.
Harbor of Rio de Janeiro: 1 culture. 1 additional food for the tile. Found on shorelines.
Mount Everest: 1 culture. Found on mountains.
Northern Lights: 1 science. Found anywhere on land.
Paricutín Volcano: 1 science. 1 culture. Risk of errupton damaging the city. Found on volcano's.
Victoria Falls: 1 happy citizen in the city. Found on mountains.

I think there are other natural semi-wonders of the world that could be used too.

Galapagos Islands: 2 science. 1 unhappy citizen in the city. Found at sea close to land.

Does anybody have any more suggestions for natural wonders of the world?

I like it. Gives personality to the map. They shouldn't be too powerful though, I mean how often to you see nations go to war over a waterfall? But as I said, I like it.

Anywhere? In northern regions surely! The southern hemisphere's got southern lights, btw. I'm not sure auroras should be natural wonders at all, considering they can appear anywhere close(ish) to either of the poles.

Like goodie huts. They would make exploration more fun. :)
They would also look pretty in 3D. Imagine having Everest next to your city!

Agreed.
Oil is necessary though so war is more inspired over oil than a +1 culture wonder.

Haha, of course! That hadn't occured to me. :crazyeye:
I just added it because it's one of the seven wonders, but that's a very good point.

On another note: There is a natural wonder of the world that doesn't exist anymore. It was a series of steps built naturally into the landscape but it was destroyed by a volcano. Does anybody know what it was called? Thanks.

This sounds like a great idea, sorta like Alpha Centauri had. Perhaps the civ controlling a natural wonder could also gain a small gold income from tourism.

That's it! I knew there was something vaguely familliar about this idea :)

I agree, natural wonders should definitely generate income from tourism.

In a way, it's sad that Civilization IV has gone gold. We should have suggested this earlier.
Well I am sure that somebody will mod it in. If somebody does (maybe I will! :)" then I'll certainly download it.

I'd download it too. Would need some good graphics though, 3d and all...

I have never used Civilization editing tools. I can mod source (Half Life 2) and script in Neverwinter Nights though. Is it similar? Easier? Harder?

I am a very creative person.

I think they'd make more sense as a tourist attraction, just adding extra gold to the space.

Roswell- +1 Science, +1 Tourism, slight chance of citizens becoming infected by alien pandemic, requires presense of military units as cover-up lest your people discover The Truth, discovery of The Truth causes world-wide panic, but allows you to finally ignore all those stupid beaurocratic regulations and whip out some alien death rays on everyone

Thanks for information.
I never heard the new name ?
Why was it renamed ?

btw , Uluru and the crater of course for desert tiles ;)

Uluru is the aboriginal name. Both names are still in use, but Uluru is now the official one. You may call it political correctness, or just plain respect. Still an awesome rock! :)

This is a good idea, so long as not too big a deal is made about them.

Suggestions:
Glencoe
Niagara Falls
Dead Sea
Great Barrier Reef
Bermuda Triangle

I would like them to work the same as an other tile (ie Dead Sea = inland lake), but generate gold and culture on the same system as the normal wonders. I think it unrealistic to power up a tile based on what would be a comparitively small feature.

10 % chance that a ship or plane that crossing this tile will disapear mysteriously ... ;)

IMO like a normal wounder would be too strong - just a little bonus for fun - thats IMO enough
