Nature Units

... and that has to be a looping animation so knock yourself out on having the Rats move out and start again in any sort of ok fashion. Much like the smoke from the fires, Tricky to animate in a looping animation where it will look continuous in a believable way.

How hard would it be to make a "mountain" unit? I'd love one to make passes between impassable mountain ranges temporarily impassable.

I love sentences like that. No offense. There are other options available for that, particularly if you're pre-placing the unit on the map. May I suggest making one of Rhodie's cloud units immobile in a mountain pass? Or (same idea, basically) using the waterfall unit?

None taken. So much for my attempt to phrase "can you make something else like this?" in a less obvious manner!

Good ideas, although given the option I'd be partial towards mountains. I have good memories of Harlan Thompson's Mongol scenario for Civ2 where the passes into Tibet were flanked by mountains that would kill anything trying to stray off the path...

Rat Swarm by LizardmenRule!
Thanks for that. The rat unit is quite a good animation, especially as I think that it was hand drawn (like some I drew in the early years). But it would have to be completely redone to suit a city plague unit.
As Balthazar mentioned, I would re-create smaller rats swarming in and out of the city icon (or circling like the vultures). And like Vuldacom says, it might be a bit difficult to get it precise, but I like the idea of rats circling and then disappearing into the city icon only to reappear at some other point to continue the animation. Maybe when I have some extra time I’ll create this. Right now I’m working on the blizzard.

Interesting suggestion. It shouldn’t be too difficult, it just takes time. In the meantime, I like the cloud suggestion. :)

...Just to spare hard work for something simple... Take the Mountains of your choice and set them as Flcs. ( they will be still animations anyway) Then apply the setting you prefer to them such as Kill anything that tries to pass, lol.
...as I have said, "Units" do not have to be animated so almost anyone could make a still animation of what ever they want and add it to their game with settings that do what they want...in this case, Mountains.
You could even add a Blank Flc (nothing in the frames and only 1 frame needed). Then adjust the settings for this "Spectacular Unit" to what you want. Set this unit where you want it and Poof... instant control of that area.

Just a note...if the area is desired to be Permanently impassable, a Unit is NOT the way to go because a Unit can be Killed. Unless you want to set 100 Hit Points and the Highest attack/defense... better to use settings for terrain than add a "special Unit" in that situation. All depends on IF you want something absolute.

Yeah ,I have thought of that as I have started working with flcs... I guess it very clever and makes room for endless variations of this idea/trick/possibility.
If only the palette is correct...

General 666... just keep the Transparent color slots correct :)

An actual part of the Map Graphics could be used for the Flcs or IF you used a Blank Flc, All Flcs could use one frame and only have Magenta in them. Set the Magenta as the Transparent color and then you can name the "Unit", make a .ini file, add all to the Unit Folder and add the "unit" to your game as you would any other Unit in the Editor, Civilopedia Image files and Text Files.
You could pre-place this invisible "Unit" on your Map where wanted. IF set as Immobile it will stay put.

Problems would be that Units have a Health Bar and that would show. Additional problem would be if it is desired as a thing that would maintain throughout the game, it would have to be set where it would be unlikely Killed... Mile High Health Bar

IF desired as a Short lived Thing, that would be the way to go with such a "unit" so it would be ok when it is destroyed but generally it would be best to set terrain as impassable rather than try to use a "unit" to prevent it.

An invisible "Force" Unit could use this technique and be pre-placed on the Map. Then IF an visible animation is desired for any part of it, that could be added such as the Death or a visible attack, etc... many possibilities. A Ghost or strange "power" that is part of a Haunted Mountain, etc... :) An Invisible "Force Field" would be Good for this...and when destroyed, that could represent the Forcefield being destroyed or turned off rather than a unit Death.

Yay, at least my man is considering it! The animation, of course, would be nonexistent.
