Nature Units

Now that I`ve had the time to view the flcs for the Iceberg more intensively I really must say that the Iceberg_Death.flc looks very exceptional. How it crumbles into pieces looks really very realistic to me (despiting the fact that I`ve never seen it in the real world).
Surely one of the most interesting units we have here.

To move them into the other units section was a needed step. (I will find them in any case.)
Thank you, I tried to make it realistic.:)
You may have noticed that most of the iceberg is underwater in the game (not 90% as seems to be in reality, but about 70%).
I also created a 6 second 'run' animation that shows the small iceflows moving away but even with a movement of 3 (which I didn't recommend as an iceberg only moves about 17 miles a day and a Civ square is about 25 miles) the 'run' animation is faster than the eye. So I didn't upload that and left it as the slow moving 'default'.

Of course, I'm talking about the map scale of my scenario 'Defeat Into Victory 2' in which I tested the iceberg. Unfortunately, it melted in the Bay of Bengal.:cool:

I have learnt again something new: Icebergs are somewhat stupid, if driving in such waters.:D

I am for sure not the only member who is very pleased about additional/optional/alternative flc-files found in a download. You may consider to add files like your slower default.flc in the future ... :scan:;):):D
... you can never know what all these fanatic dl`ers are doing with your work :eek:...
and if the file already exist...:D

Thanks for the comment.:) The Iceberg RAR contains only two flc's - 'death' and 'default'. The 'run' sequence operates using the 'default' flc. I didn't include my original and longer 'run' flc for the reasons previously mentioned.
As far as others 'tweaking' my work is concerned, I welcome any improvements. Vuldacon has since helped to improve the image palette and those changes have just been included in the new download RAR.

In the 1970s there was some thought given to towing icebergs to particularly dry areas, specifically Saudi Arabia. I'm not sure I'd base a scenario around it, but the iceberg as Princess unit might be an interesting twist.

Best,

Oz

I do recall that. It might be more appropriate today to help with Australia's soaring temperatures and ever-dryer conditions? But, as the world becomes warmer, icebergs will become a rare sight.

Hey rhodie,
I made an alternate pedia icon for the iceberg unit with an image I stumbled on and really liked. I'm going ahead and attaching it as a second option. Hope this is ok with you.

It is a great image and a welcome alternative.:) The Pedia image I used was a graphic representation on the article about icebergs in Wikipedia.

Thanks for letting me know. The use of icebergs helps make the North Atlantic scene look more realistic. I'm very pleased that you could put it to good use.:)

rhodie:
I forgot to mention, found a typo in the iceberg.ini file:

RUN=Iceberg_Defult.flc
should be:
RUN=Iceberg_Default.flc

So what's next on the agenda? I was thinking a sandstorm would
be useful in a lot of scenarios.

Quite right, thanks for finding that out.:) I've corrected the RAR in the download.

I have an unfinished PTW Ancient Egyptian scenario that includes a provisional sandstorm but I won't publish anything until its ready. Maybe when I've had time to change it to Conquests and completed it?

A Sandstorm sounds like a very good idea to me.:D
...but the different deserts on earth shows slightly different colors. That would even gives the opportunity to make different color-conversions of a Sandstorm-Unit...:mischief:

Yes there are many forms of desert but not being an expert, sand is sand to me. From the photographs I've seen, the minute dust particles may vary in colour from yellow-red to dark brown depending on the area, wind turbulence, sunlight and sky conditions. To emulate that effect as a unit could be a challenge. Maybe you would like to try?:)

There's only one color of desert in most scenarios anyway...
