Can anyone give me tips on how to beat a navy equal in strengh to my navy without a 1 to 1 loss ratio, i need something to beat these guys.
I already use carriers + fighters to increase my chance of sinking them.

use subs with flanking 1 and 2
Or alternatively, build a tougher navy

Do you have bombers?

Yes i do but a lot of the combat is in open sea, being a island map and to far from my bases,

Carriers and fighters are the best way to win a naval war. If you can bring in some land based aircraft then do that, but remember bombers get a -50 modifier against ships. You need enough fighters to be sure to reduce the enemy surface ships to near 50% strength and then you'll certainly kill a ship of theirs in exchange for some damage to your ship. Destroyers can even kill 50% strength battleships most of the time.

You then need to protect your damaged (and hopefully promoted) ships until they heal. You might need to retreat to a port or sit under a strong stack with a medic ship. The AI is amazingly stupid about concentrating its naval forces and I get something like 95% kill ratio for battleship v battleship and destroyer v destroyer engagements.

How do you managed that. I like the submarine idea, on another matter does west point and the pentagon give naval units experience:goodjob:

I manage it by chosing when and where to fight. I use fighters to scout and find the enemy ships. To extend their range I will move my carrier forward 2 tiles, scout and then decide how to use the rest of the carrier's movement.

You need a local superiority in numbers and if the enemy is too strong retreat and draw them into battle another time. The AI makes all fashion of stupid moves and likes to use its battleships to reduce your ports defences even when it has no invasion fleet. You don't need to defend aganst that, but wait until you have enough forces to sink them.

If the AI has 2 battleships approching I will have at least 2 carriers with 6 fighters strike them first and then send in my battleships or destroyers to finish then off. I then escort my damaged ships back to safety.

Utilize your airforce if you have one, don't attack their ships until they've been damaged (if possible), and make sure you're promoting your ships well. Drydocks, westpoint, pentagon, and military advisors all count toward naval XP.

I use this strategy with good success.

I use stacks of 1 battleship with collateral upgrade, 1 carrier, 4 destroyers (1 with medic) and 1 sub. Obviously use the fighters first, then hit any stacked units with the battleship to cause collateral damage, then I mop up with destroyers.

I like to get multiple battlegroups like this going. When one group is damaged I will rotate with a fresh bunch and heal the first.

my 2 cents

Cheers for the tips
