ill probalby tech rifles and cap mansa augustus and elizabeth while peacevassaling gilgamesh and settle a few islands to put me over domination limit

Williamdoe, I feel like it would have been a lot easier to conquer Rome with cuirassiers leading to rifles and cavalry. You were probably on that tech path anyway trying to get liberalism... I find muskets really hard to fight with just because their base strength is kinda low. Also, watch out for Catherine randomly attacking your eastern side, she does that sort of thing

Just because you have a UU does not mean you have to use it. Besides muskets vs med units is not great without cannons or another stronger unit.

ya i agree with you and gumbolt if i replayed i would wait for rifles or cuirs

I played to roughly turn 220 or so before calling it a game. Brief spoilers for immortal difficulty:

Spoiler :

I settled my first city to the northwest (wheat) and built The Great Lighthouse soon after. That wonder is completely broken on Archipelago maps, and I used this to get lots of trade route bonuses from Gilgamesh, Mansa, Augustus, Elizabeth, and Catherine (Alex was Annoyed/Furious with me the whole game but was completely irrelevant.) I did neglect exploring with workboats so my trade route income was lower than it should have been. Nonetheless, I still won the circumnavigation bonus.

Regarding settling, I crammed in about 7 cities on the starting island, had a few more in other island locations, and even managed to get a city on Augustus/Mansa's landmass (but I didn't get the stone on the other island as Catherine got that). In general, I favored more cramped cities due to the Great Lighthouse.

I beelined Liberalism and Rifling. Fortunately, Mansa decided not to get Liberalism which meant I got Nationalism as the free tech (but didn't get the Taj, Elizabeth got that). I won the Music Great Artist race, though, and used two Golden Ages to help me get to Rifling. I also built the Globe Theatre in the southern city with two fishes and one whale resource (it has only one land tile, the city center, so I had to built it via whipping catapults and adding the overflow hammers.) Then I whipped/drafted and declared war on Augustus using a two-pronged attack. The first was land-based using the city I founded on his landmass to his south. The second was a naval attack to his north. My rifles/trebs had little problem wiping out Rome.

While this happened, Mansa vassalized Augustus, causing him to declare war on me. Mansa was technologically advanced, but I had more rifles and now cannons, and proceeded to take two cities on his peninsula (including his capital) and then I decided to call it a game. ;) It was fun. And I did not build a single cottage the entire game.

Sorry for the lack of screenshots -- I played this on a Mac computer and I couldn't figure out how to get screenshots.

Well, I beat this map on Emperor, no huts/events, normal speed.
Spoiler :

But I did restart several times and replayed the map a bit - on the win, I knew where stone was located and I knew that valuable wonders would be going fast.

I settled on the hill, cranked out a worker and prioritized fishing, mining and mysticism.

I sent my warrior around the island, keeping to the coast in order to see all workable tiles.

At size three I got a settler out and then built Stonehenge. Next I expanded to max size and built TGLH - whipping to ensure I'd get it.

And thanks to map knowledge, I settled very early on next to the stone on the adjacent island and used my capital to build The Pyramids while my 2nd city built settlers/galleys/workers as needed.

With Stonehenge, TGLH and Pyramids in, victory was pretty straight-forward, although it took forever.

All-in-all a fun map for me. Could probably have won w/o Pyramids with careful play - with the Pyramids I went Monarchy early on w/o researching the requisite techs and later went Police State once I got Cuirassiers going.

With Police State I was easily able to out-produce any foe and I usually had a pretty big tech advantage to boot.
