NC CXXVI Hannibal

i think PH is definitely the way to go. 6 turn workboats + saves you a forest for GLH.... does make sharing your starting seafood a bit more difficult though.

I think you move the warrior on the PH and look at the tile 3E 1S of the settler before thinking about moving the settler. If he reveals a green hill, maybe you move on the PH. Otherwise I think I will stay put and hope that little rock to the south is copper or iron.

Heh, i thought the settler was already on a PH, but I'm not good at distinguishing forested hills when tile yields aren't turned on.

Emporer/normal 1000AD/turn 160.1 turn from Liberalism and in a dilemma.

Spoiler :
Worker stole from Sury on turn 10 which has meant bad relations and declaration of war from him and Ceaser up until now.Built the colossus after oracling metal casting and all these Financial seafood tiles+colossus bonus have been amazing.

The dilemma is whether to lib astronomy and colonise the GORGEOUS island to the west...or lib military tradition and steam roll ceaser and sury..

@Zarkon: No, stone doesn't boost GLH.

I might give this one another try...

Spoiler :
I've got Caesar and Sury vassal'd, but it's late in the game and I'm teching toward tanks to wrap up UN diplomation. I feel like I could do it quicker, but I got a great start thanks to the Abusehouse. Sadly, I forgot to build a Library until way, way late, mostly because I was also watching my kids.

Fun map, though!

Well this is my first time posting in a nobles club and I'm pretty new to the game, going to give it a spin on noble with no huts. I'm thinking plains hill settle probably and then follow towards GLH like people are talking about

Going for an easy space win on Emperor. I am in a dominant position and all the AIs are so much behind in tech it's not even funny.

Edit: 1903 space.
Spoiler :

Axe rushed Sury because I felt I was going to get boxed in. I had some amazing luck with my axes. I fought five battles at 23% odds and won four of them which was my only loss in the war. No Sury slowed the tech speed down because Caesar felt that he had a monopoly to every tech I didn't have and I had to self tech everything. Overall the tech speed in this game was absolutely horrible and I managed to get about 10 trades from the AI during the whole game. The other AIs had met each other but hated each other meaning they didn't trade that much. I played quite sloppy and didn't really think about my tech speed. Also missed the GLH which in the end didn't matter.

Large picture warning.

I built random wonders, teched Astro and discovered rest of the AIs. After a golden age I attacked Caesar with Cuirassiers around 1200. He capped quickly after I took his best cities. Built my empire without really any direction before deciding to go for space because intercontinental wars are such a hassle.

Tech with the awful AI
Spoiler :

Just have to finish this. Probably the slowest tech speed I have ever seen on Emperor.

Space race victory in 1903 with an awful score of 67k.

Hahah I played so long and didnt even noticed stone does not boost GLH :D I was convinced it does as the rest masonry wonders :D So I should have build it earlier :d

Numidians are so, so good on Deity. I mean the only better early rush units in the game are Immortals and War Chariots and those are almost cheating. Im not counting Quechas because they're so limited by thei rmovement if there is no target right next-door.

Looking to move up to immortal after my first try at emperor led to a 1795 conquest victory. Map looks good to try it out here plus hammy is a solid leader. May or may not try a num rush, but definitely the great lighthouse. :D

Immortal/epic/no huts or events

Spoiler :
To 1550
I opted to settle on the plains hill

I teched Ag>AH>BW>Sail>Masonry>TW>writing>aest

I built in Carthage WB>worker>WB>Warrior(to grow to size 4)>whipped settler when sailing came into lighthouse>great lighthouse

With my settler I founded Utica by the horses before Sury.

State of the empire
Spoiler :

Right after I got the 2nd clams online, here comes JC demanding them. I obliged, only to cancel when I could. He's also plotting right now , so I'm thinking about settling the settler in Utica 1 NW of the copper and start chopping axemen or chariots out. I will whip that settler when I can too. If he does come after me, I'll be ready. If its Sury, I might gangpile.

Playing on Immortal no huts normal speed.

I settled one east to get three forests i can chop for the Great Lighthouse to wich i made a beeline. I got only three cities on the mainland but the islands in the back are nice too. So I can grab 11 cities by 1 AD.

I tech to Engeniering and Civil service. By the time I attack the Romans they are still running Pretorians and Archers. And are stuck in expand mode to cover all that land they got to the south. It's not a difficult war, but it still takes a while. I think I had to take 8 or 9 cities for him to give in.

Meanwhile alienface has beelined grenadiers and started ploting on me. So I decide to go with Cavallerie to fight him. I break his stack first round of the war and take another 5 cities. He gives me Astronomy with the capitulation. Very usefull.

I build some Galeons. And move my stacks over to Japan who is still stuck in medival times. But he has a lot of guys and the Protection 3 Musketman hurt so i decide to switch to Rifle Cannon.

Thats were I am right now its the year 1650.

Tried it on immortal and gave up in the 1900s

Spoiler :

Civ4_Screen_Shot0043.jpg

Japan, Korea and Vikings got up to 20 cities each and researches everything in a couple turns.

Civ4_Screen_Shot0044.jpg

Tried to backstab Japan while at war with Korea, but he managed to vassal Korea before I had a chance to fully deploy my stacks on his main island. From then it got down hills real fast.

I think conquering the main island early is of paramount importance. But I had no horses and no iron... -_-

To 305 BCE:
Spoiler :
I settled the city 1NW of the copper and make a couple of axemen in fear of JC attacking me. I also settled a city on the big island, and a barb city spawned there:mad:, so I had to adjust my settle a bit from where I wanted, but I think the city is better placed now than what I wanted.

I remembered that Num get 50% against melee, so I teched HBR next. I then went math, hoping that someone would go Alpha I have my EP on Sury, and I saw him go Monarchy>writing, so I figured he would go alpha next. Nope. He went math, so I teched alpha myself. So I traded around, got archery for nums. I bulbed compass in hopes of spamming cothans, but next turn war be declared.

The stack is a small stack, nothing I can't handle. It's a praet and two archers. It had an axemen, but he attacked my axemen and his lost. Sury can be bribed on with only aesthetics, but I'm leaning towards no. He's at 8 cities and I don't want him to get JC's cities as well. Nums/axes should do fine I think.

I do plan on counterattacking soon after his initial stack is down.

I feel like this map was modified? There are altogether too many seafood resources in all the most convenient places. Not that I'm complaining, mind you.

No, just ran Map Finder overnight which gave me about 50 to choose from, tried to pick one which gave an interesting game - not too easy like my last one or too hard like the last Noble's club.
