So, we all remember the NCG and the 2 false starts it acheived. I was really sad to see each thread die an inglorious death, so I decided to start a NCG on my own, with anyone who wants to join in. The format for this first NCG will be in the ALC format, seeing as that's the form I'm most used to reading-wise. Mice, in the former Stalin NCG, suggested to use the Lonely Hearts club format, and that may become the format later, but since I am also planning to write a book this summer, these write-ups willl get me in the mood. Those of you who take my initial save and play it are kindly requested to put your shadow games in spoilers; I'll take a look at them after and we'll have a post-game analysis.

As of yet, I have not decided a leader for this 1st or 3rd NCG, so that's an open-ended question. Keep in mind also that we are using vanila; I have yet to get my hands on warlords.

Thoughts?

I like the idea ( already said so :D ). For first or third leader ( who's counting? ) I suggest Frederick ( in vanilla he is Phi/Ind, a killing combo) for a Pyramids/SE showdown or Mansa for showing the power of Financial trait or how to use Archery.

Good luck then ( this deserves more than 2 false starts) :goodjob:

Um... Phi/Ind doesn't exist... it would be a fun combo though...

Edit: cross-post

Fair enough.

I've had experience with all victory conditions, but I personally perfer domination and space race. I can do cultural, but it's tricky for me. Conquest I can also do, but I always win domination beforehand. Diplomacy involves too much groveling for my tastes, and I try to never win by time victory. So, we are probably looking at domination, space race, and cultural.

Maybey cultural? only won a few by accident, and the only time I was aiming for it, I won a domination victory. All those cities kept revolting to me. :)
So, either ramses, for wonder building and some early trouble making.
Ghandi, for GA spam,
or all favorite whore, Izzy for midevil neighbour trashing?

Ghandi is not philo/spi in vanilla, that's saladin. No Rameses, because no warlords, but vanilla ghandi has his traits. Izzy would be fun; watch as I control all religions!:jesus::queen:

let's also add for cultural, Louis XIV, seeing as cultural+industrious= killer culture.

But changing civics on a whim is fun. it helps to keep every one happy when they ask to join their civic religion without anarchy.
So, salidin, ghandi, izzy?
I would rather take chin of china (he is still industrious in vannilla? their unique building gives 25% extra culture) then louis. Cultural i find only good in the beginning. Its better to build stonehenge, for culture and gp's.

Qin shi Huang is indeed industrious in vanilla, unfortunately, however, there is no pavillion in vanilla.

It looks like we're basically finalized on what victory condition we will attempt to acheive; that is, cultural. The three leaders we're looking at are saladin, Isabella, and Ghandi. Each of them are spiritual, and only Ghandi does not have a Knight UU. Saladin is Philo/spi, and starts with the wheel and mysticism. Ghandi is Ind/spi, and starts with minig and mysticism. Isabella is spi/exp, and starts with fishing and mysticism. Personally, I'm leaning towards either Saladin or Ghandi, as they have traits that are benficial towards a cultural victory. If everyone could chine in with civ selection before 2:30, I'll be able to start this game on time.

I'd pick Ghandhi, that way you don't rely on a military UU so lessons can be learned for use with other leaders. Assuming you are planning to do any warring in this game.

2:30 of what time zone? I'm in GMT....

For me is ghandi. Is UU is somewhat underrated ( not military...), but will shave you some important turns in the beggining of the game ( where it matters the most). And having Myst and mining means that you can found a early religion and that your UU has something to do right from the beginning...

Eatern standard time.
Sorry, I keep thinking the world revolves around New York City:crazyeye:

And yes, ParadigmShifter, I probably will do some warmongering. just don't tell the AI!:ar15:

The fast worker I think is the best UU anyway. They can outrun tanks, I think they have a better range than planes on roads (EDIT: after engineering), and with railways... they could probably run around the world if it was possible.

W'll probably need to do some warring, or cultural conversion to reach our 12 cities for cathedrals.
I say ghandi. Building GA wonders is expensive and we can shoot for some early religions.

Never tried chasing one no!

Do normal workers magically become fast workers as well if you steal them or is that just my imagination?

You can also use fast workers as scouts. As long as you have a move left you can run away from a barbarian or an animal that pops up next to you when exploring.
