need info on getting civ for mac

Hi I'm new to this orum.

I had civ3 on my mother's old PC and I was addicted. But I am a mac user and when I moved out I haven't been able to play it anymore. I even went to game stores and they told me that I couldn't play civ on a mac. I was even considering buying a PC just for this game (eecchh...)

I live in Canada. What do I need to get to be able to play civ3 on my mac? I have an eMac G4 700MHZ 384 RAM...will that be good enough?

Hi, Welcome

Your Mac should work fine with Civ3, though if you are running OS X, more memory would make it faster.

You can buy Civ3 for Mac from places like Amazon. Once the have the CD you can upgrade your installation to the latest Mac version (1.29b2) using the updater link in my sig. You won't be able to run the Play the World or Conquests expansions, as they haven't been released for the Mac.

Before Christmas, I was checking around for availibility and I remember that PCMall.com still had the Mac version in stock.

The GOTY version is bundled w/ some extras, like the 1.21g editor and other things. Get whichever is less, you can always download the editor from MacSoft's site.

Compusmart used to stock it. Admittedly, I haven't been there for a while though so I'm not sure if they still do. You could always phone them.
