can anyone tell me whether a:

NVIDIA GeForce4 MX integrated GPU

Im not looking for fantastic gameplay, but would it run the game without freezes and crashes

thanks

As far as I can tell, the GF4 MX supports hardware H&L, so you should be fine.

...but it only supports software vertex shaders, so it'll be very slow.

it plays...until you get to your first wonder movie...then you get a review of your desktop

The GeForce MX series has been much more stable than some way more expensive cards - but go check out the bug reports forum - you get to join my special club, called the "toast only" club. In other words the yield display only displays the food icons, not the hammers and coins. Really annoying, but not a game breaker. In addition there a few other graphical glitches people have reported such as being able to see floodplains even throught the fog of war.

Just make sure you set the graphics in the game to Medium and game speed and play will be fine however. I have played for MANY hours with my MX 440 card, and only experienced 2 CTDs ever. And who knows if they had anything to do with the graphics card. Plenty of people with 6800 GTs and other expensive Nvidia cards, or whatever the expensive ATI analog is, have experience TONS of way worse problems.

I have it and it works for me. Turn your graphics too the lowest settings and download the latest updates for it from the NVDIA website. Wonder movies are choppy (but i think that's the case for everyone) and it crashes very rarely- only during the modern ages.

I had a GeForce 4 mx with 64mb memory... The game ran okay, but there was a lot of scrolling graphics lag, and the mouse cursor would disappear whenever it wasn't on the move. BUT the game was playable. I wound up getting a 256mb card and that improved it lots. I don't think a video card is the only factor on whether or not it will run though.

cool...

apparently the minimum system requirement for the card is a GeForce 2 ..... is that better or worse than a Geforce 4.....

Wonder movies aren't choppy for me. I have a GeForce 6200, which is supposedly a "budget" card that won't work with cIV.

I'm using a GeForce 5200 FX 256mb card. No problems whatsoever. I bought a year ago for $100 (US). Probably a lot cheaper now. A very good video card.

Please disreguard the minimum system requriements. They aren't accurate. GeForce2 is the predecessor to the Geforce4.

downloaded the demo, to test it out..., when you start is everything except your people and animals and settlement suppossed to black... i doubt it...

its visuable on the small map in the left corner..the shroud clears on that when i explore, but on the actual map i see nothing... i.e. no ground

help

You need a better graohics card, but I can't really recommend my GeForce 6200, as it's old(ish.)

I run on an old GEForce 3 - TI200. When I first got the game it ran as long as I shut off movies. Last night I was one of the lucky/unlucky ones to get the patch before it was pulled. Nice improvements, but still crashed with movies on. This AM I downloaded the brand-new driver for the card from Nvidia. Bingo - runs fine with movies. Hope it helps....

well, if javal didnt have my problem then i guess it cant be the graphics card itself..... where/how can i download new drivers?!

thanks anyone

Go to Nvidia.com. Pick "download driver" > Choose GEForce and your operating system. One should come up that was released Nov. 22, 2005. That's the one I used. Download it. Uninstall your old one, then install the new one. When smooth for me. Needed to re-adjust resoloution, but that's it. Good luck . BTW...make a restore point first just in case of problems...

Actually, I was able to run the game for some time on another computer while mine was fried. This one had a GeForce 2, so yeah, it was pretty slow on scrolling. Didn't experience any crashes though.
