Hello everyone. I've tried to play Civ 5 two times now. Both times I played all the way to turn 100 and then I just couldn't bear playing any longer. There's nothing interesting going on. In Civ IV I had many options for the beginning of the game. Am I about to be rushed? Should I consider rushing somebody (and if yes, what should I do it with? Axes? horses? archers?) Stonehenge? Oracle rush for a sooner bureaucracy? If i did the wrong thing at the wrong time in Civ IV then there's a good chance that I would end up dead. In Civ V I feel absolutely no urgency whatsoever to do anything. The City states keep bothering me by telling me to go take care of their barbarian problem. Hey, if it's not MY barbarian problem then you are on your own because I see no reward in it for me. Also the one unit per tile really annoys me. One unit? really? Some people say it is more strategic that way. Yeah right. The "stack o death" is way more "strategic" than the one unit per tile setup. Some people complained, "oh my cities keep getting taken by the huge stack of doom! So totally OP!" Umm.. that's called war. The country with the bigger, more sophisticated army wins. Unless you have nukes
You have to think about where the enemy is going to attack you in Civ IV and set up appropriate defenses. Most of the time a defensive SOD, but that's how real wars are fought. Hitler had a whole ARMY of Panzer tanks in reserve because he wanted to have an overwhelming defense against the allied forces should they choose to attack him on his own territory. Hitlers reserve tanks were so intimidating that the English tried to use espionage tactics in order to make Hitler believe that the allied forces were going to attack someplace other than Normandy so that the allied forces would not be completely overwhelmed and therefore probably lose the war. General Patton of the United States forces was a part of this English program of deceit believe it or not. That's right, the totally awesome tank commander lol. They had Patton on the radio saying military type stuff to make the Germans believe that the allied forces were about to attack a different portion of Mustache boys territory than Normandy. So we can see that the stack of death in real life is a force to be reckoned with and has been used to win wars since the beginning of time. Until now
So I guess my question is does Civ V get better after turn 100? Politeness, please. I do so loathe internet tension. And thanks
