Need some help with civ3c

Sorry, think again. Since these guys come at the same time as knights and cav, there 1 movement makes them rather useless, IMO. I built them once but quickly found that the battle was already over by the time they showed up. Never again.......

They might not have that 2 movement points but they got 5 atack (Better than Knights). But I have to try them. And if i don't like them I wont build them anymore.

But it's not so bad, either. Because that city is both producing units and doing other things, like building improvements or producing other units. So it works out in the end.

Although I am running out of ideas on things other than units to build. Maybe Wealth :mischief:.

Before everyone has cardiac arrest in your suggestion of building wealth, just concentrate on the units to aquire more territory. ;)

The "5A" is what suckered me into making them too. But if they can't make it to the fight in time, what good is it?? I guess I can see them useful in repelling a more powerful opponent, but at this stage of the game I'm usually the biggest civ.

Maybe your playstyle is different from mine - making them a good fit for you.

The problem with Crusaders is not their 5a, it's their 1d. So you've got to have defenders to go with them so they can survive to make it to the city they're attacking. When some Crusaders come knocking at my door, the Knights answer....

I thought it was 3D.

You're right. They always seem weak and underpowered as defenders to me. Yeah, I know, that's the point, but it involves sending other resources along that could be used elsewhere.

They're just as strong in defence as knights and pikes...

No. I just havn't tried them yet so I don't know if they're good.

But I have so many units know that I'm getting bankrupt. I'm in Republic. And theres no more space for cities. And I don't want to start a war (yet).

@Aceman: Agreed, they do have the same D as pikemen, but a pikeman in the open is fodder for cav. But like I said earlier, give'em a try and see if you can make them work.

I'm curious why you have so many units if you don't want to goto war. I hope you didn't make a gob of defensive untis again??? That lesson should have been learned in your last game.

Why not pick a civ, pummel them for 5 rounds (after which they should be willing to talk), and sue for something, anything.

To relieve your high unit support, get high corrupt towns to crank out workers and add them back to your core, bringing them up to pop 7.

Also, can you post a sav?

Right, but they're always the frist to go in my games. That's why I thought they were lower def. ;)

The timing of war is an important thing. If you have absolutely nothing else to sink your resources in, then wealth isn't all that bad. It's just not most player's first choice in a city.

You're not keeping warriors and spearmen around in the IA, are you?

Yes I should go soon. But I'll make a few more units. I only got 70!

Will do ;).

 You sound like a military advicer (Just like Aabraxan who taught me last time). No i didn't make any defender. Well maybe a few spears but i disbanded them and replaced them with medievil infantry and knights.

I will make a few more units, then go to war.

Well first I need to build Trebuchet's. I only built one so far :mischief:.

Good Idea, Delphi! :).

Also, can you post a sav?

Well it isn't that much of an issue. I already got the advice I needed. But if you insist... I'll post one tommorow.

There is no need to try them numbers should tell you what good they are.

I know you, you would have a stroke of good or bad luck with them and decide based on that, just what happened to your Mounted Warrior a while back  ;)

There low slow movement isn't a big problem though, cause, you see, even if you could conquer 2 cities with knights in the time it takes templars to take 1, you simply send you templer stack to the 3th city and conquer 3 cities in the time you would have conquered 2 without them.

The real question is: is it worth investing 400 shields into this wonder? Considering a templar is 70 shields... How long before the wonder goes obsolete?

But it is certainly nice to keep if you capture it. The city will then probably be to corrupt to produce units, but at least it still produces a templar every 5 turns....

I so HATE those Mounted Warriors .

Although I find it usefull to have extra movement points I do agree that you can still conquer extra cities with crusaders.

:mischief: I just wanted those crusaders. But they wont go obsolete untill steam power. So that's a good addition when war comes.

I will wait a bit before I go to war. In my last game I went to war to early (1000 BC) and I found it really hard to destry spear with archers without catapults.

But it is certainly nice to keep if you capture it. The city will then probably be to corrupt to produce units, but at least it still produces a templar every 5 turns....

That's true.

The real problem with Crusaders (and Ancient Cavs) is that they can't be upgraded. If they can be upgradeable (to Guerillas and Knights maybe) then they wouldn't be so troublesome.

Maybe a mod is in order then. :)

@ Turner: Yeah, I do that myself. :D Either that or leader-fishing with the elites.

I'll just kill them off in my next attack ;).

[offtopic]@Mirc. I replaced the civ3 art files with the new sn00pies graphics, and it worked. Thanks for the advice :). [offtopic]

I have declared war on Rome and took most of their cities. Theres only about 5 left. So far it's going good.
