.Net framework initialization error

It's actually a DXSetup.exe- .net framework initialization error.

anyone have any idea what this is? It occurs when installing DirectX9 from the game disk. I got this game as an early xmas present, and despite reservations about how good the game is, I do want to give it a try.

I am running a geoforce GTS 250 video card. I just updated the drivers (I also did a windows update as it had a vid card update on it as well), but still no luck. Maybe the problem is my video card is already running direct x 10, and 9 is too low? How do I check which version of direct x I'm running?

The problem with this error is I don't know what .net framework is. It doesn't sound video card related, but the problem does occur on the direct x installation part of the game install. I did a forum search, and turned up a few threads, but they don't seem related to the install problem I'm having.

The .net framework is a programming framework for windows...but i have no idea why it should be needed for DX.
Try downloading it directly from the Microsoft page and installing it separatly.

hmm, I tried installing .net frame work 4, still didn't work. So I read some stuff on uninstalling framework, then reinstalling. I did that, still didn't work. I then installed the windows update for framework, still didn't work.

All that was for nothing, as you can just bypass that error and just continue installing. I noticed that before, but was hesitant to put in my activation code if I wasn't sure if the game would work (I wouldn't be able to take it back in that case). It looks like it's working. I can't tell if the patch is installed, but something downloaded from steam, so maybe it is.

There's numerous .net frameworks but I don't know which one Civ5 uses, try installing all of them?
