I've played all MOO games and decided 2 is the best. If I only had a Christmas wish, that would be bigger maps (multiple galaxies, if possible) and LOCAL NETWORK MULTIPLAYER (not hotseat, not PBEM). When I got my hands on it first, I had Windows '95 installed on my PC and succeeded to play it in multi through a serial cable. "Eons after", the situation was a different one: Windows 98/ME and a HUB modem. This time I faced a daunting dilemma: the game detects the other player in DOS-mode, but this mode is no longer supported by Windows. That wouldn't be such a problem in singleplayer, but the environment for the HUB to operate is WINDOWS. So there is NO CONNECTION between two or more computers other than a Windows-based one, but the connection type of the game requires a DOS-mode. I started a DOS-mode at the startup prompt on both computers, but the HUB only recognizes Windows-only messages. So I'm puzzled! I've got two questions for you:
1. Is there, by chance, any old and ancient DOS-based modem around to buy (in case I need to play MOO2 in multi)? I even don't know whether they merely exist...
2. Do you happen to have an update for the MOO2 modem drivers, in order to use a Windows-based connection? This could prove even great than the first variant.
The AI is no real challenge and I hate not being able to get my friends involved into it....
