The new 100k limit means that all PBEM save files have to be zipped and unzipped. This is probably repeated over a hundred times each week.

I realise that the cumulated save games attached in the PBEM forum have probably eaten up a lot of server space but the new limit may not be the solution. Why not restore the old 250k limit but auto-delete all the save games from PBEM threads where no one has posted for a month (if not feasible, just delete the old PBEM threads). That should free up a few hundred Mb and make sure the server space used doesn't grow and grow.

p.s. I'm referring to Civ2 PBEMs

;) I was going to say... the Civ3 MP/PBEM games have just started!

You can always use the Easy Upload feature to upload the saved games. ;)

The attachment table is so big it's approaching the file system size limit...

cant we just delete the attachment feature ;-)
and instead add a script which uploads a file to the upload server and automatically adds a [ img] tag for it to the post?

TF, he has a point.

Didnt you say those attachments were eating up the server last time the forums were crashing?
We deleted as many as we could in the SGs, and uploaded them.

There are a couple of other forums (like GC) that have no attatchment feature, just uploads...;)

Yes, if it's such a major problem, it's better to do away with it altogether and make people learn how to use the upload feature and img tagging. :mwaha: :whip:

Besides, the 100kB limit pretty much kills off any Civ3 saved games attachments.

Just what is the procedure to upload something?
At the bottom of the page, you can see a link for 'Upload File' (rightmost of the chain of links; beneath the ad banner). Click on it and a box will pop up. Specific the file fr your hardisk and then click to upload it. It'll give you a confirmation once the upload's done.

Next, just post a link to the file in the uploads server. ;) The add shld be www.civfanatics.net/uploads2/yourfilename or something like that.

Zipping and unzipping is very simple. If you have WinZip install you can just right click on a file and choose "Add to FileName.zip". Unzipping is very simple also. Just right click on a zip and select "Extract to folder FileName". :)

...Or Extract to here. I use that and then move the file into the scenario folder for PBEM play.

You can upload smaller files without zipping them.

If you click on the uploads link, there are instructions right there, to guide you through.
To link to your image/file/whatever, I have found its best to go into the uploads, refresh, and then copy link address.

Best part about the uploads link, it makes a seperate pop-up screen, so you dont lose the page you were on previously.

If removing the attachment feature speeds up the site, please by all means train those 16 inch guns on it and fire for effect!
:D
