Well, it's that time of year, and I'm going off to college next year, so my parents are getting me a laptop for Christmas. I don't want to spend too much, though, so I'm thinking of getting a Gateway with Intel Core2 Duo Processor.

The specs are as follows:
Processor Speed: 2.2GHz
Cache Memory: 2MB on die Level 2 (Not sure what this even means )
RAM: 4GB
Hard Drive: 500GB
Video Memory: Up to 1759MB

The graphics card, by reading reviews, isn't great, so I'll have to get a new one installed if it's not compatible with Civ, but that's expected.

So I guess my question is, how will CivIV run on this computer otherwise? It runs well on my current desktop with only 512MB of RAM, so I'm assuming it should be considerably better than it is now (although I'm by no definition an expert on computers).

Here is the link to the specs, if it helps:

I have an acer laptop with Intel X3100 graphics media accelerator which I guess is the older version that your laptop will have. Civ 4 runs fine although I don't play larger than standard size maps as I don't have the time for such games. I run at 1280x800 with all graphics settings high. Make sure that you check out Lemon's W7 and Vista threads before you install Civ and install by running setup as administrator.

Yeah, my main concern is that the graphics card will be worthless, but if yours works well, i hope it means mine does too.

I knew there were installation problems or some such nonsense on vista, but Windows7 too? I'll be sure to check it out. Thank you sir.
