New crash on game loading

I've been playing CiV since it came out, no technical issues other than the rare CTD.

Today I was having some issues, I'm guessing with my vidoe card - on booting the computer the monitor was getting no signal, and required several reboots to see
something.

When I actually do get a screen, I can load CiV, but when I either set up or load a game, it goes into the (nation specific) loading screen, loads for about 30 seconds, then CTDs. I've repeated this abuot 10 times. I was playing just a few hours ago with no problem, so I've no idea what the issue is.

I'm not particularly computer savvy, what I've done so far to try and resolve it is:
  • reload game
  • reboot computer
  • reinstall game
  • clear game cache
  • download newest video driver
  • clear temp folder

My video card is an Nvidia GeForce 7025, haven't had a hassle until now.

I'm at a loss what to do next, and am not sure if my issue getting a signal to the monitor is related

Any help would be much appreciated

Don't forget verify local game files.

Yep I'd done that, and btw the graphics card was an 8800, the 7025 was my previous card and was still displaying.

It ended up being the vid card anyway, it must have taken some damage and couldn't keep up anymore. Lowering the video settings from where I'd had them let me play, so I went and bought a better card, works perfectly

This started happening to me also - I was getting a crash to desktop. I figured out that somehow some really old save games from several months ago which I had backed up to another directory somehow got restored into the directory where the save games are stored.

I thought I was loading my latest save game but was actually loading the really old game which was causing the crash. I found my latest save games under the prev directory, copied them back and continued to play ok.

Starting a new game worked ok so that told me my save game was bad. (old in this case) Did you try starting a new game?

8800 cards are notorious for dying, at least some batches tend to die, because the materials can get somewhat fluid and ultimately this messes up the electrical properties.

Baking the cards in the oven worked for some people since that makes the materials fluid again, and allows the stuff to get back where it is supposed to be. This is of course a highly experimental thing to do and it does not work for everyone, but then again the cards are dead anyway so it is a fun thing to try. :D

Same issues. Playing a huge map for about 5 hours crashed and now it will not reload. =( I got up to 9k points and now I won't be able to submit in HoF. Really want to fix this.

I got my file to work. I lower everything to lowest possible and also had Windows Task Manage up while loading (Duel Screen). Whenever it was Not Responding I would go over to processes to end it and than I noticed that it is still taking up memory so I watched it and it worked. Though most of the time it did not keep going up in memory.

I also set it's priority to High.

In other words watch how much memory it's using. If it keeps going up it's still loading even if it say's not responding.
