New Diplomacy Game: Civdip XII - Broken Resolutions

As an observer, I am a little suprised with the ease this group has let one of it's players leave and accepted a new player.

I can understand in most cases, but here the player left because he felt the gamesmaster was not being fair.

As a minimum I would have expected the group to talk about it and either agree with the complaint or not. If the complaint was upheld you could accept the late order and/or change gamesmaster, and if not the player would be much more likely to stay because at least they have been heard out.

Please don't take this the wrong way KoC - I am not questioning the NMR, I am raising a point of order because I also play in diplo games, and I would be furious if my complaint was addressed like this by the group.

Anarres,

A big difference with the other games you and I are in, is that they are organised by the group. This one is organised by the GM. It's his show.
In our game, it's most defenitely not the GM's show.

Apart from that, I consider Russia to be lucky, he was allowed to change his earlier moves (where he ordered a non-existing army).
At that same trun, Turkey was lucky, his order for an army in Greece was interpreted as a fleet.

We (anarres, I and others) have a rule about interpreting orders. If there is no ambiguity, we usually rewrite orders.
I consider mistaking an army for a fleet non-ambigious.
I consider ordering a non-existing army ambigious.
This interpretation worked in my favour in this game, thus I decided to not speak about it.

Yet, I still did feel Russia was lucky once, and pushed the line too far, by a NMR right after.
He showed lack of commitment twice.

I am just an e-mail away, if people want to ask me anything or question anything they can do so, the same with discussions. Each step on the line I've asked if people have objections to contact me, make their point.

As for Barron, he sent an e-mail and announced his decision to leave, he didn't request anything else other than that.

As for how the group has taken to 'oh slappy' is probably in part because he has immediately got involved in the diplomacy, making bridges, something that the previous Russian had started to let slip.

Time to update this.

I didn't ask too many questions about the NMR, even though I may have been hindered greatly because of it. Obviously if there was a major reason (medical, work or family emergency), I trust the moves would have been accepted and adjudicated accordingly. I'm also not in the loop as to all that was said between the player and GM, so I don't have enough information to complain.

Fair enough, but that NMR screwed Russia, and you didn't deal with it consistently (i.e. the same as the other late orders). :)

It's no biggie, but I would want to make sure of these things before the game started. I don't see losing players that are doing ok in the game as a good sign.

Yep, if I dealt with it consistently, Russia would still be gone. It'd have made things abit easier for the replacement, however.

The main difference was that whilst Pellaken deserted in the first place and ignored direct attempts I made to communicate. I knew with Barron he'd just be late, but he'd get them in, but MANY in the group were already annoyed that leniency had already been shown. A deadline is a deadline and considering I had resolved the turn before seeing my inbox and the Russian orders (late by 18 minutes) I wasn't doing it again. There were no other deadline slips of significance as provisionals were already in.

With the ease at which provisionals can be made, there are few excuses for NMR, especially as I even go to the lengths of reminding people. Moreover, people should be into the game enough to remember the deadlines.

Russia may have been doing okay, but she did NMR, that wasn't my fault. If this was Redscape the Russian would even had an army in Norway and then she would have an NMR against her the next turn, it was Barron that mucked up and didn't even have the excuse of being busy.

If anybody should be upset it should be me! :joke: I don't think my orders to Liverpool were ambigious at all. ;) But I'm not a fan of rewriting history.

My apologies to friend and foe alike for confusing the board. What really sucks is I can't blame it on alcohol (I don't smoke). I'll blame it on the lack of sleep. Yeah, that's what I'll do... It was the lack of sleep...

Done! BTW, I figured out why I though my Fleet was in Liverpool...

:yeah: Newsflash! :yeah:

As the Archduke so feared, a change of Russian leadership has brought hardship to his people. Could the disaster have been less severe? Surrounded and out-gunned shall the Austrian find an escape route, a new friend or simply have a noble end?
Italian and Russian forces breach the Austrian defences and secure a tight hold on most of the Austro-Hungarian Empire!
The German war effort stalls as the English hold their fleet in the North Sea, whilst the Austrians fail to link up with German support offered from Tyrolia.
French forces successfully secure London and Liverpool and look secure whilst also being in a supremely opportune position.
English forces fight bravely, but it could have so easily gone far better with them.
The Turkish Navy secures possession over the Black Sea, something that has been sought for many a year.

Thanks for running the game and allowing me to participate. All I can do now is play it out and see how my empire ends...

My guess is "soon". Hope to see you in the other CivDip game I desperately want to see organized.

Looks like an extention, eh kOc? I'm okay with that.

Indeed...time to e-mail the group.

Good to see that Stapel takes the game as seriously as I do, hell I've been in another country and had my mum tell me what happens via the e-mail I received and then she took my orders all over the phone :D

Thank you ERIKK for bringing this to us :)
