i noticed in the civilopedia that there was a new hero but you cant build him i cant remember his name but where is he in the game?

Lucian.

He isn't exactly a Doviello Hero though. Although in the lore he was a Doviello, he never actually appears in the game. No civ can build him. He was added for a scenario for the ice phase. Frankly, I'm not sure why Kael decided to add him early, but not make it possible to ever use him without cheating. He isn't that impressive either;e is really just a swordsman with a unique name (and probably graphics), without the ability to be upgraded, and without any free promotions (not even hero).

Lucien, Penguins & Frostlings (and possibly Scrub) were all added for the Scenarios. At least one of them is currently playable (to some degree) in the Dev-Team only release, and it required these 3 new items.

For fun, Penguins and Frostlings were made available via events in the main game. However Lucien would not fit into the game via an event very well, thus was not added in. He possibly should have been flagged <bGraphicalOnly>1< though just to keep people from seeing him :)

Well Saverous is a doviello too.

WAS a doviello, before he got captured and was mutated into one of those drown.

I wonder if the Azer is also meant to be for a scenario as well because there is no lore or any reference for them. They pop up occasionally in deserts and as far as we know, they are just floating eyeballs made of flame.

I thought the Azer was originally implemented as a summon, before the merge with sorcery?

i got an event that created an azer in my terriotiry and i was supposed to go kill it... but then my game crashed after i clicked continue on the event

Frankly, I'm not sure why Kael decided to add him early.

Because that scenario is currently being playtested so I need all the components for it. Expect to see a lot more scenario specific features being slipped in.

Though Xienwolf is right that I may hide them all in pedia entries for the normal game so they don't confuse people. I'd honestly rather find ways to slip them into the main game in events and such though.

why not add him as an early dovellio hero? it seems kind of strange that the dovello, whco reach their peak early on, have a really late-game hero.

Thats a definite possibility. Granting them Lucian (an underpowered axeman) early instead of their bonus warriors.

"Woa are the we, the Doviello, for our precious war machine has been laid to waste. Let us now build a shrine to it in hopes that some day, we will once again have a machine with as much might and ferocity."

Honestly, it always seemed odd to me they build a shrine for their war machine, and ressurrect it with 'life' mana.

It's presumably the genius who built it, something like Dentaro if I recall, then the actual war machine, being resurrected. Then he just builds another one. Possibly the same with enshrinement, but I can see the Doviello enshrining the war machine itself...

Yeah, that makes sense. Dentaro is probably the only Doviello that can figure out how to operate the thing, and its death probably means Dentaro's death.

Or maybe
"The blood of countless armies is soaked into this weapon. It has made widows and orphans of all nations while it moved. Now that it has stopped, it is no longer a weapon, but a shrine to war itself!"

Hmm.

Y'know, saying it outloud, maybe that'd be a cool way to represent the War Machine. A "Dentaro" unit that you build that has the ability to make the War Machine... or something (An implementation for that doesn't spring into my head, so maybe not).

Does that code that let's a unit 'build' a structure (IE, animal cage, holy shrine) only work on buildings?

Anyhow, the War Machine has always struck me as a tad weak, just because it is so late in the game, and honestly not THAT strong. For an early rush civ, mainly, it always struck me as a waste of a hero slot. (As opposed to Rantine, who plays with the Clan strat perfectly).

Well, it is as strong as a Dragon (Acheron at least), so I wouldn't call it weak. It is also an earlier hero than Abashi or Eurabatres. An early hero would be nice for this civ though.

I think that the build code only works with buildings, but it is certainly possible to make the War machine a permanent summon. Not sure such a change is warranted though.

if lucian is given to the doviello as an early hero would you be able to upgrade him like the heros from age of ice?
