I'm starting this thread to illustrate some of the new features that we are putting into BUG. This initial thread will contain links to posts discussing the feature. If you post a comment (and please do), please highlight which feature you are talking about.

Revision: 590 - Changed Chevrons, Option for wide tech screen, Included 'end of turn' label in logger
Revision: 589 - GP Bar: Show %s for selected city
Revision: 588 - Added City Specialist Options: Stacker and Chevron
Revision: 587 - Added Great General Indicator to Unit Plot List

Here is a screenshot showing the City Specialists with the Chevron option.

The single Chevron specialist represents 5 specialists.
The capped Chevron specialist represents 10 specialists.
the boxed capped Chevron specialist represents 20 specialists.

So if you look at the angry guys - that row represents 38 angry citizens.

I've added the option of including the main screen great people bar in the city screen.

Great work on all this new stuff, Ruff! :goodjob:

I really like using the stacked specialists. The only time it gets confusing is when you run Caste System and open a city with a high population (15 or so). It's still usable, but you can't tell how many specialists of each type you have since they are packed so closely together. I haven't thought of a good way to tweak it yet, but if I do, I'll post again.

This is why I added the chevron option.

How about combining the two. I like the stacked version b/c it lacks the +/- buttons, and I like the layout (two columns). It would be cool to have an option to use the chevrons in the stacked layout.

For example, if you had 16 total citizens under Caste System, and 9 were specialists, instead of

1111111 111111111

(the left 1s are open slots, the right 1s are specialists), you'd see

115 11115

Does that make sense? I assume the chevrons would show up on the grayed-out specialists (the open slots).

Are you guys ready for a release?

Also, we are we creating so many new threads to discuss something that will take maybe 10 post at most, and why was this thread created instead of the sticky we have being used?

Not ready for a release on my end. I have a few bugs I'm fixing:

  • The wide-screen placement of the research buttons
  • Some minor fixes to the GP/GG bars (text placement)*
  • Widen tech screen to full screen width (as it is normally)
These are almost complete. Also, I'd like to add the trade route columns I mentioned in another post to the CDA. These should be fairly easy additions. Of course, it would also be nice to do some quick testing.

How about next weekend or some other time that works for you?

* I changed the GG bar text so it shows only the # of XP needed (29 instead of 31/60) to match the two other bars. If you hover over it, it shows the x/y format just like on the Military Advisor. I was thinking of replacing the Strength icon (flexed arm) with the word "General" since "Great General" won't fit -- is that too "general" ;) or is it clear enough? The hover text says, "Great General x/y", so maybe I should leave it as the Strength icon.

Let's try it with the text "general" and see how it looks... it is a bit confusing with the flexed arm being used for two things in the game. Next weekend won't work for me, so let's plan it for the weekend after?

No - I want to get the first version of the military adviser out.

I prefer shorter, more focused threads when discussing fixed items (ie specialists) than long rambling ones that cover lots of topics. Much easier to find later. That said, this did become a catch all and I should have put it in the other thread.

Widen tech screen to full screen width (as it is normally)
Both my pcs are wide screens and I didn't even realize that the default is full width. I like a little margin left and right (think I put in 20 or 30 pixels) so I would suggest that we have a minimum width which is the full width for default screens (is that 1024 pixels?).

I'm fine with that, especially since I play at 1024x768 (the minimum size it allows). I just can't read the text otherwise. Heck, I can barely read it at that low resolution anyway! The margin looks odd to me only because the screen has no margin itself, but I've put the 30 pixel margin back in. No need for an option here. :) It's committed.

The GP/GG bar changes are committed as well. It looks nicer as "General (x)", and it fits fine, even to four digits I'd bet (though close).

Finally, I've committed the new CDA trade columns. They aren't in Cammagno's pages since I wasn't sure if he's still around to put them where he wants them since they have his name on them. :) They are really only useful when deciding the true cost of Mercantilism.

Edit: BTW, I created the sticky "New Features & Fixes" thread only to post screenies of new features -- not for discussion like this thread. Of course, now I'm just being lazy and not using it. So sad. How hard is it to post a screenie anyway? Too hard, obviously.

I fixed all the multi-line hovers in the option screen so they are formatted as they were before, and I moved the tab titles and labels to the XML file. The only thing left to do is move the drop-down options to the XML file as well.

Of course, now would be a great time to introduce our team of translators . . . :)
