smash will have some problems, me thinks. he(probably) wont be castling any time soon, unless he wants to weaken his position. actually, i dont know, it could go either way. looks as if martin has upper hand, though.

hehehe..well we'll see.Its a good game though.Unclear at this point.

i was looking for b6, which would have allowed castle, and, however, the loss of a pawn, i think. im trying to go by memory

here, ill review topic:

im curious to the reason of the move c6 now. actually, nevermind. oh, hey, whites down a pawn. i didnt realize that. many chances for counterplay though.

d5 is still quite possible, after whites next move, which i willnot say, because i may be accused of helping you. after that move, i do not see anything preventing d5. i might have expected b6, to release bishop. hes not going anywhere now, it seems.

um..c6 is pretty much forced here.

Because of d5.

This is tough.Never should have grabbed that pawn.Attack first, pawn grab later...

Huh? Both 5..Be7 and 5..Bxc3+ are book. According to NCO (Nunn's Chess Openings) both lead to equality. As a tournament player I play the French myself, and always play 5..Bxc3+ in this line. I don't think I've lost a game with this as black yet.

ssshhhh!

I hope you are not the anand I've heard of.

True , but i have to admit i would have taken the pawn too if i had the opportunity . At this point it didnt look that troblesome to develop your pieces .

That is maybe true but to me
5... Bxc3+
6.Nxc3...Nf6
7.f3...exf3
8.Qxf3...

seems to be a very dangerous gambit . Have you ever encountered this ?

Hmm interesting. No I haven't seen this before, but then I play 6..Nc6 which pretty much forces 7. Bb5. After that theory goes 7.. Nge7 8. Bg5 f6 9. Be3 0-0 10. Qd2 f5 and that's just the beginning

Nc6 is kinda a "must play" in this line. The alternatives give white advantage early.

I didn't like the pawn grab but I kinda felt like I had to play it to justify Qd5.
