Hello,

I just downloaded the single executable GOTM Windows installer for Civ3 1.29 (THANKS!!!!). It was a breeze. I had a crash on my first game, but that was explained in the readme and I moved the appropriate resources files to fix it. I'm looking forward to comparing my pitiful skills to some of the really good players here, and learning a lot in the process :)

But first, the plan is to experiment with a few games just using the bic scenario file. Ideally, I'll play every game with this bic and make it my default as the readme suggested. So, is there a description somewhere of the changes in the .bic and how this will effect overall strategy or city management? New units, new nationalities, new resources! A lot to learn.

Also there seem to be some resources that are not completely done, no graphic or description (whose names escape me). What are they for?

Any help would be appreciated!

What a fool. Just saw the GOTM "Reference" Thread. Well if there's anything NOT in there let me know :)

Welcome to the GOTM. I'm sure you will find it fun. Just jump in and start playing. We are here to help you if you run into difficulty.

If you do need help in the future always remember to let us know what version of the game you are playing (Conquests , Play the World [PTW] or Original. Also what GOTM or COTM you are playing and the platform - Windows or MAC.

I thought the GOTM game used only vanilla or PTW? Or at least that was what this new game (Germans) allowed me to download.

Or is the COTM game using the Conquests expansion? Hence the C rather than G.

Sorry, I've finally decided to try my hand at these games even though I'm just now thinking about moving up to Regent level games (recently began winning on Warlord a lot). Emily (wife) and I are going out but when I get back I plan on downloading the full GOTM as well as the current game and giving it a try. I've spent a lot of hours reading the War Academy articles. Thanks everyone.

That's correct, GOTM is for vanilla Civ or PTW, COTM is for the Conquests expansion only.

But if you have Conquests you also have the PtW executable, so you can play both.

Ok I'm a little confused. I downloaded the GOTM Mod and the GOTM 39, only my only choices were vanilla or PTW even though I downloaded the Conquest version of the game. I realize the Conquest is dealing with my less-experience of the game only and that I have to play this using PTW. But, is there also a COTM 39 I am able to play? I hesitate to start since I believe the rules say I can only play just one.

Thanks again, sorry if the question seems foolish.

EDIT: Okay, ignore this post. I just went back and noticed an entirely seperate game for COTM and realized my mistake. I thought GOTM 39 could also be downloaded as COTM 39. Thanks.
