[BTS] New guy...trying to improve

If the game's running fullscreen (which it is normally), I never see alerts from this forum.I alt-tab to this page/thread then back to the game/other screens. I don't check email for alerts, period. And, I'll admit I don't play 24/7...though I may post fairly often (for me) while I am playing.

Ha - no, I didn't mean forum updates. I meant that did the GAME usually warns me if an enemy is getting close to one of my cities.

But I think there is still quite a bit to be experienced in this game.

One other major effect on my game has been the "long war" with the Incans. I definitely learned a bit - mainly that I "axe rushed" very inefficiently - too few units at the point(s) of attack/arrived too late (Incans had more units than I figured and moved/reinforced faster than I expected).

Ha, been there, for sure.

....and I'll let you in on a secret, i'm not even close to a 'perfect' player, and i tend to play fast. there's probably as big of a gap between me and Fippy as me and you. I've never even won the game on the highest difficulty.

Yep sorry it's not possible for barbs spawning inside your borders, esp. not warriors so late with superhero powers so there are 2 options..
you are telling us fairy tales, or are not playing the version everyone else has.

Or not paying enough attention to barbarian movents, which is perfectly normal for someone new playing huge/marathon. That's another reason why both settings are very bad for learning.

I tried to suggest that as well. I dunno what kind of settings there are for in-game alerts, but I use the default ones, and it warns me every turn when mobs are walking around near my cities.
