The following are just some of the new info revealed in yesterday[Friday]'s chat with Firaxians:
  • The hard coded limit of 84 icons has been removed.
  • The advisor now uses a calculation similar to the one used by the AI to assess military strength. Units without attack/defense capabilities will not be counted.
  • The editor will allow up to 31 to play, though how enjoyable that is is debatable.
  • Mongol Keshik will replace knights.
  • You'll be able to start in any era, but the year count isn't configurable.
  • Currently, we're entertaining the idea of part of their unique ability is that they don't replace the unit they replace. Conquistadors are light cavalry, so it seems weird to block regular cavalry...
  • There will be a dino unit set of around 10 units. The dinos in the E3 PTW video is an allosaur.
  • Beyond airfields and autobombard, aircombat works pretty much the same as it always did.
  • The graphics file format in remains the same (PCX) in PTW. Adding new terrain (such as animations) beyond modifying whats there isn't going to be possible in PTW.
  • You also need 2/3 of Civilian pop in addition to owning 2/3 of world land to get domination victory.
  • There will not be any new civilization attributes in PTW.
  • Guerilla is a cheaper, weaker, resourceless infantry. We're testing hidden nationality for them, though how the AI handles that will be the big determining factor.
  • You will be able to view existing deals in the foreign. Basically all the info from the 'active' page in the diplowin will be availabel out side.
  • You will not be able to create an "army" of ships, but stack movement works for ships as well as aircraft and land units.
  • Sid Meier is currently working on about 5 different prototypes simultaneously.
  • Hwacha is NOT part of the Japanese unit pack. When asked "The Hwacha appears to be a bombard unit, how do you start a golden age with something that can't win combat?", Jeff answered "The same way the Americans do, by constructing wonders." So Koreans are likely in!
  • We're looking into increasing the max. range for air units but nothing is definite yet.
  • PTW will have full support for DirectVoice (voice transmission in MP games).
  • Unit trading is on the wishlist.
  • PTW will include a rally points feature (the ability to automatically vector newly built units from their production city to another city/location)
  • Espionage works very similarly to the way it did in civ3. All the popups are compressed into a single screen in PTW, but the options remain the same.
  • Mongols: Militaristic and Expansionist, Spanish: Religious and Commercial.
  • With the editor patch, you will be able to designate which terrain types will support cities as well as colonies. This makes mountain and water cities possible, although not directly supported.
  • Appearance ratio has no effect on the bonus resources.
  • There are no plans to change corruptions further.
  • No to building airbase in other territory and no to upgrade air units in airbase.
  • The June release date for the next patch is still tentative.
  • Because the compression slows down the game too much, the next patch is removing the compression from the auto-saves. But non-autosaves will still have compressions.
  • Units that have created a Great leader will have * label. You will also be able to rename them.
  • In the editor you have the following zoom levels: 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%, 150%, 200%, 500%. Zooming in the game remains the same.
Be sure to read the chat log (Edited Unedited) to get the complete list of new info. Thanks again to Jeff, Mike, Javier, and Soren for coming to the chat!

Please post any new info from the chat not mentioned above in this thread. :)

Will there be an up to date printed manual with PTW? I've never purchased any "expansion pack" so I don't know what to expect.

Usually they have manuals with XPs. Not as thick though, but really with just info on the new stuff.

Mongol Keshik replaces knight? Dammit, tooo many knight replacements!

Anyway, thanks for the info T-Fall! Keep it comin'!:goodjob:

Some other info:

- the PTW content currently has a size of about 200 MB
- PTW will have an own exe, Civ3.exe will still be available and playable
- PTW will come with about 10 scenarios from Firaxis and the best scenarios from the communitiy
- the Hebrew didn't make it but have a good chance for the next addon ;)
- "Mega-Bank" has been changed to "Stock Exchange" (3rd commercial improvement)

So does this mean that PTW is merely the 1st XP for civ3?

This is quite logical, as all Eastern Asian so far has been replacing the Knight (except the Korean then...)

Very interesting, I'm a bit dissapointed about there not being any new Civilization attributes, great we have another Zulu and another India, big whoop

This is mainly of use to modders i suspect.

- We will be able to use more than 36 Icons for resources.
- We may get the ability to create improvements that affect food directly (i.e. give +50% food) (Mike B.'s answer was: "possibly with the editor.")
- It is possible that we might be able to make improvements obsolete (Mike's answer: "maybe. Not sure yet.")
-There could be some change to the fact that the center til in a city produces a fixed amount which is not editable (Mike's answer: "actually we are looking into making the food production dependent on the amount of food needed to support 1 citizen."

Nothing guaranteed apparently :) except the icons thing, but still looks good IMHO.

Not exactly news is it? - the appearance/disappearance ratio flags are greyed out for bonus resources.

LMAO.

You mean, this is basically the bulk of the XP?

Are you kidding me?

Where are the AI tweaks, new diplomacy features and government options?

Looks like all that's coming included in the XP are new units and improvements.

Who wants this POS?

I think you forget multiplayer ;)

I did forget, but on the other hand, I don't really care much for MP.
(Especially, if we have a swarm of 56kers taking up server bandwidth to play, and lag the game out to hell.)

What I want is for Firaxis to improve the single-player aspect of the game. There are still many features that could be added, that could both improve single-player AND multiplayer, tremendously.

I though MP and XP where the same??

[01:44] <@PaleHorse76> Montezuma> What about volcano resource with negative bonus points Just for implementing natural disasters?

[01:44] <+Jeffrey_Morris_FIRAXIS> Montezuma: Definately and high up on the wishlist.

So, Natural disasters, like volcanoes, definately and high up on the wishlist.

[02:35] <@Thunderfall> <Montezuma> Is in plans Russian localization?
...
[02:35] <+Mike_B_FIRAXIS> Montezuma: I don't know. Localization is Infogrames' decision.

So, future localizations in Inforames's arms.

[02:41] <Montezuma> Firaxians, idea for implementing internment
...
[02:44] <Montezuma> FIraxians plz answer q : Internment

[02:45] <+Mike_B_FIRAXIS> Internment?
...
[02:46] <Montezuma> Yeah return workers after war without capital role
...
[02:46] <+Mike_B_FIRAXIS> Montezuma: interesting idea but no plans for that right now.
...
[02:46] <Montezuma> ok

So, internment (capturing workers in war and return with peace without capital role) is interesting idea but no plans for that right now.
