New interview with Dennis Shirk

Oh God, again E3 and the same gameplay footage... I wanna something new. Not interview or previews, new footage, and gameplay.

Again some repeated vague stuff about MP, agendas, unstacking cities  and stuff like that which was said 1000 times before.

Random agenda: Likes someone with really strong industry.
"Cassus Belli"
Warmonger score is affected by era.
"Religious Combat" is "slick."
Pillaging districts go from 3rd tier buildings to 1st, & then finally the district itself

That's about it

All those things were hinted or said before ;)

- Dennis confirmed some civs never appeared before in civ games.
- Modded multiplayer is one of the goals.
- District pillage goes 1 building per turn starting from the most advanced ones. Once all buildings are pillaged, the district itself could be pillaged.

That stuff was also mentioned before, and it seems for me at least two times :p

Is this video (and part 2 of it) new? Do we know if any new info is in it?

EDIT > Hmm, so far, the guy seems to be more or less clueless about what's already revealed about the game, and says many wrong things.

EDIT2 > Ok, watch more or less the whole thing, and it's completely worthless. The guy has no insider information that we didn't already have, and he makes a lot of assumptions, many of which are wrong.

While we knew pillaging individual buildings was possible we were unclear on the specific mechanics of it. Like could you h be pillaged the library before the university, let's say.

Also before they used the term "justified war." We all understood that to mean a cassus belli mechanic, but this is the first time he actually used those specific words

Unfortunately for us impatient fans, 2K/Firaxis releases new info on their timetable. So these interviewers can ask good questions, but are never going to get good answers unless it is something that 2K/Firaxis is ready to give. So we get a lot of evasive answers.

Which in my opinion is the right thing to do on their part, considering the game is still be worked on and might be subject to changes.

Credit and thanks due to Reddit user kisop for putting together this list as can be seen in the above link:

•Modded multiplayer : No confirmation.
•Smarter AI vs bonus for AI in higher difficulties : No definitive answer.
•Expansion of diplomacy : Touched upon sending delegation to uncover agenda, casus beli and surprise war.
•Revolution in cities : Declined to answer but said local unhappiness should be kept in check.
•DLC : Digital deluxe edition includes first batch of dlc.
•Religion : More info to come later.
•New civs : Not yet seen civs to come. Favourites from older games will be kept.
•Scenarios in single player : Will be supported either officially or through mods.
•Pillaging districts : In campus, research labs are pillaged first followed by university and library.
•Encampments get ranged attack and can defend on their own.
•As units spawn in encampments and not city tile, encampments should also be targets of siege.

Most interesting part of this for me is the Deluxe Edition DLC mention. We probably all expected that there would be something coming with the game, but that it mentions the "first batch", does that mean that the first of the four DLC's will ship with the game (a la Babylon)?, or is there a lot more DLC that they're already planning beyond the four that come as a Season Pass of sorts with the Deluxe Edition? If the former, how much does a "batch" constitute?

The untouchable 12?

Spoiler :
America *
Aztecs *
China *
Egypt *
England
France *
Germany
Greece
India *
Japan *
Rome
Russia

Those, plus Spain, leaves room for 5 more civs. Having recently gotten back from Machu Picchu, I hope the Inca make it into vanilla this time.

Not yet seen civs... I wonder what they could be? Keeping in mind that they want to balance the starting locations on a TSL Earth map, I'd say Congo is a pretty good bet. Other than that though I'm stumped. Any help here? ;)

I cannot avoid to guess that their interpretation of Favourites gives support from old running gags like Gandhi and the Zulu (whose rejection seems to be growing on this forums)

It's more likely comes from most played civs statistics that they would get through Steam. They do not need to rely on forums or any kind of assumptions. They have the data that shows which civs are played the most, thus the most popular. Of course, problem with data points like that is, are the civs popular or are their UA, UU etc popular.

Lack of Gandhi would be surprising, honestly, given that he was the leader in most if not all games.

Same with the listed Civs, it'd be surprising to see them omitted.

•Smarter AI vs bonus for AI in higher difficulties : No definitive answer.

Let's be realistic here. They won't program 8 different AIs. It will be like previous iterations, a basic AI with bonuses and some elements of AI logic that scale with difficulty.
