New Leader Traits?

Skippy, he didn't take Jersalem for the Muslims, he just took Jerusalem. The Christians weren't managing the city very well and had expelled the Jews from Jerusalem and many Muslims, when Saladin took it back, he let the Jews come back and let the Christians living there stay, what a nice guy :-)

There are way more religious leaders than Saladin in Civ IV.

Hatshepsut with Spiritual/Creative, in stead of Industrious/Creative, but that would be a killer culture victory combo. So I don't know what to say..
hmmm....i wonder why they didn't do that???

:p

One thing they REALLY need to do is spread the religions around on the tech tree so it's harder for one player to monopolize all of them. Simply controlling one religion has allowed me to set research to 100% and still run a budget surplus. One of my fellow C4 players routinely goes after controlling all seven....

I don't like the traits in this game, they are too unbalanced...

industrious, financial, spiritual are far more enpowered than the others

Have you tried Organized or Philosophical? They are pretty good. The Organied trait is especially powerful in high difficulties.

Philosophical is superb if you make a GP farm. I once did a calculation and found that you get roughly 40% more Great People from the Philosophical rait, given the same conditions.

Last time I counted my total instances of Civic changes, and found that spiritual could save up to 5% of the total turns, but usually 2-3%.

I like players who grab religions, they are the best to invade. I once nabbed a 3 religion city. Not to mention all the wonders it came with.

I razed it however, he would have just taken it back.

I've changed industrious and financial personally. Now Industrial gives +1 hammer on tiles with 3 already. The 50% Wonder is ludicrous. And I nerfed financial to +1 gold on tiles with 3, not 2. Spiritual is underpowered so I changed the anarchy to 2 turns without it. The game is beautiful to mod.

Just depends how you play really, if you notice the non industrious/more militant civs usually have a UU that if exploited well can easily crush a wonder oriented civ.

What happened to the scintific trait? that was why I played as greece in civ3 but now alaxander's traits seem mismatched, what i mean is if your going for military w/ aggressive would you really need +100% great people points?
food for thought

I like Gettingfat's idea of Adaptive from here.

Adaptive: Leaders who perservere and make the most out of difficult situations. +1 shield in jungle tiles and workable tundra tiles, +1 gold in workable desert tiles. Half cost building hospitals and recycling plant.

I like this idea a great deal. However, I would probably change the buildings. Although I can see the theme with the hospitals and recycling centers, they do come in awfully late when compared to something like the Forge from Industrious or the Barracks from Aggressive. Perhaps the Aqueduct and/or the Grocer might be a bit more advantagous. It still gives you the health factor yet come much earlier in the game. Aqueducts aren't that expensive to build, then again, neither are the Temples from Spiritual.

Actually shake Alexander has a nice combo, I've been usaing him to try a specialist economy and it works great. Specialists come up to speed a lot faster than cottage spam, so you can wage war without as much delay. Philosophical means that if you're using specialists, you're getting lots of GPs and getting them very early, which helps keep your science and infrastructure on top even if your cities are pumping out phalanxes.

Plus it would be just silly to have the Greeks in without the philosophical trait, that's what they're known for most in history. The combo really feels a lot like an empire-building greece to me.

Conqueror (Warlord) trait? -25% war wariness. Barracks half price.

Who would have it? Genghis, Napolean, Julius, Alexander.

I have no idea of what should happen to the Aggressive trait with regards to this. For the Conqueror civs to not have the aggressive trait would seem strange.

Other ideas?

Trader trait. +50% more from trade routes. OR an extra 1 or 2 trade routes. Market half price.

Lucky trait. 4% chance of getting a free tech, calculated when a new tech is selected; 0.5% chance of automatically winning a round of combat; Increased chances of good fortune with huts.

Maybe the industrious trait should be +25% hammers when constructing buildings (same as Organised Religion)?

Resilient (Hardy) trait. I like the idea of a trait that allows a civ to live in usually unhospitable lands (like the desert, jungle, tundra and ice). Maybe giving them an advantage that allows them to grow there, but not like an agricultural +1 food kind of thing. Whatever can allow them to get going there well with food, commerce and hammers, but *without* giving them an advantage on normal land. A lot like the Adaptive trait but made specifically so that a city can be competitive there and not just exist.

Nomadic trait. No distance maintenance costs. Probably way to powerful, but a variation that factors in the distance maintenance costs. Maybe an increase in the number of cities maintenance to rebalance it. Something balanced but of this nature anyway but not overpowered. Imagine Genghis with police state, Nomadic/Conqueror traits or maybe the Nomadic/Resilient traits with Keshiks! That's more realistic for him.

I have no idea if these have been done before. I am aware of the Nomadic trait, but it did different things than to what I have described. The Resilient trait is a lot like the Adaptive, but I was after something more geared to civs developing in unhospitable lands, not just getting an extra shield here or there.

Stalin could have the adaptive trait. Russia was really a powerful nation in the last century, despite being "in a crappy location". I also saw a pharaoh and augustus, which could have a pop-related trait. Perhaps something involving happiness/food bonuses. Churchill could be a good candidate for a possible "diplomatic" trait.
I'd like to see a trait that adds 1 food on tundra, and makes mountains and snow somewhat usable. However, in a flat hot world, that would be completely useless. The food/pop bonus could be the ability to transport irrigation before civil service, the diplomatic a +100% on trade routes, with a bonus on harbor and airport.

What leader (except for Isabella) is more religious than Saladin? The Al-Aksa mosque was in Jerusalem and he went there to get it, for it is also holy in the eyes of Muslims. He was a great man, religious, stradegic, clever and philosopical. So he shouldn't get aggressive since he was not a hard man. He let Christians and Jews into Jerusalem. Saladin was a "warrior of Islam" and Spiritual indeed
