New Roads !!

If I put the unzipped roadprimitive.dds file in CustomAssets\art\Terrain\Routes, do I make a folder called Roads for it?

Unpacking the Art Pack File:

1. Download the PakBuild.zip file from http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=136023

2. Run the EXE and select the Unpak option

3. Go to your Civ4 directory (default is C:\Program Files\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\) and open up the Assets Directory. Click on the Art0.FPK file and select Open. C:\Program Files\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Assets\Art0.FPK

4. Browse to your Civ4 folder and click on Assets and click Ok

5. Once the unpack finishes, put and replace the Roadprimitive.dds file into \CIV4\Assets\Art\terrain\routes\roads

6. Run the game.

My Assets folder doesn't have an Art0.FPK. The only FPK files I have are Assets0, Assets1, Assets2, and Assets3. How do I get the Art file?

EDIT: I see that I have an Art0 file in an Assets subfolder of the CustomAssets folder in the "My Games" directory tree. Can I use this file?

EDIT2: Actually, that Art0.FPK I see is a folder, not a file. I have no Art0.FPK file on my system.

hi, the 1.09 pack have changed the Art0.FPK to 4 new single pack Assets0, 1 to 4.
just unpack those files as usual into the assets folder.

then replace the roadprimitive.dds in roads.

Put the files into Assets/art/roads folder found in your Civ4 install. (not mydocuments).

Very nice work :goodjob:

I replaced them with the original roads and think they are much better! They are very clean.

Nice work.

Do you mind if use/modify it, then include it in my modpack?

Of course, no problem, do what you want with ! but post your version... could be nice :!)

Roads of a different color are nice and all but I'm hoping someone does something about how ******** and curvy they are. IMHO they look like crap so do the rails... What I'd give for a nice civ2 style straighline road / rail...

In some cases it doesn't even show two diagonally positioned squares are connected by roads, even when they both have roads and you get the road bonus for moving in that direction. I don't like that. I want the graphics to match what's going on in the game.

Yeah, I agree, its confusing and if you do have an unroaded square it often looks like there are roads in the square.

Note i have changed the texture ONLY, not the road drawing system, these are still original.

You should have it be the normal roads to start (maybe you could make them thinner, but keep them brown) then once you get the tech that allow for +1 movement on roads they turn into your roads.

Yes, good idea. but i need to code a mod for that.
I have skills in programming but i don't know how to do with the civ API.

If somes of you write me the object name to code, it will be easy to do it by myselF. i think it s a great idea to change the road cycle with age.

This is also something I was interested in doing for my mod... however, I am not a programmer so I was force to try adding a 3rd route type. Suffice it to say Civ 4 doesn't allow that. I wanted to have dirt roads in ancient to medival eras, Cobblestone roads from Renaissance to industrial eras, and highways from modern and on.

It's too bad that the cobblestone roads didn't work, (kept crashing the game) :p

So if anyone was planning on making a mod with changing roads through the eras, I'm certainly interested. :D

Is there a way that these roads will not replcace the origanal and will be an upgrade of the regular road kind of like how the railroad is an upgrade of a regualar road if so could I use these for my mod???

Good evening, all

I hate to bump old threads, but I was hoping someone could help me.

I've been trying to make these the default roads in my epic games(BTW these are great, patgarr :goodjob: ), but so far I just get the Firaxis crap roads.

This is what I've done so far: I've tried following the instructions left by everyone here, but something just is not working.
(this is the first time I've hosted screenshots...it takes rather a bit of adjustment)

Running the Pakbuild(I'm running CIV IV 1.61)

Now I did this for "Assets0.fpk" through "Assets3.fpk"

But I still don't see anything in Civ IV's files to replace this with. I can't find anything that says "primitive roads." What am I missing?

Argh! Civ III was so much easier to mod...all I had to do was rename a file or two...

OK! I GIVE UP!

It appears as though I'm the only person to have a problem with this.

I just want to know where would "roadprimitive.dds" be in "firaxis/assets/roads?"

I cannot find it to replace.

Please? Can someone help?

Once again I curse Firaxis for complicating the once-uncomplicated process for modding...

Have you tried placing the roadprimitive.dds file in "My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\CustomAssets\Art\terrain\routes" directory? There probably will not be a file there to replace but when starting up, Civ4 will use the files in your CustomAssets folder and it hopefully will work that way.

Give it a try & let me know.
