The Age of War scenario is the latest creation of Pheonix Benton (aka Exilie), author of the recently added Dracula scenario. This scenario limits the entire scope of the game to the age of industrial warfare in Europe between 1900 and 1945, with all new units and technologies pertinent to the period. If you would like to see "dreadnoughts hurling shells across the waters, mass armies marching toward the front, and mobile columns striking off over vast areas of enemy territory", then this scenario is for you!

Here are a few screenshots showing the main map, city screen, and units.

I am having problems getting the Age of War Scenario to work ... it says it is not a 'save file'??? I am using the original CivII ... not MGE or anything. The notes had no restriction on version that I saw.

Oops ... it does say you need Fantastic Worlds ...

Yep. It's an MGE scenario. I believe that there is a patch somewhere, either on this site or on ACS, that will convert other Civ2 programs to MGE and that, after having done so, MGE scenarios will then function normally.

Hey, I too am having some problem with this scenario. I have MGE and downloaded the scenario and sound files, but when I start the game I get a message that says "Civ 2 has caused an error in CIV2.EXE". I might mention that I have had no problems with any other scenarios. Did I miss something? Any help would be appreciated.

No idea. Is anyone else having problems? This scenario was playtested for weeks prior to release, and no exe problems ever appeared for me, nor did any of the playtesters ever mention anything like this. If you'll pm me your email, I can send you a zipped copy from here if you think that'll help. Have you tried to play without the sound files? Thunderfall and I experienced some "problems" with those in the sending process, so you might try it without them, just to see if it works. If you do, and they turn out to be the problem, please let me and/or Thunderfall know and we can do something constructive about it.

In the end, I'm just a designer, however, not a computer whiz. I know how to manipulate the scenario stuff, but your problem is beyond any expertise I have.

Can someone else more qualified assist here?

Scan your PC for Viruses, thats my advice, i haven't had any problems with your scenario exile.

WDHeisse; I tried to send a copy of the scenario files to you, but got back a mailer-daemon thing. No idea what is going on.

Exile: Don't know what happened there, but sent you another pm with 2 e-mail addresses.

SunTzu: Scanned and came up a-ok.

Morten: I would try this, but I would not know EXACTLY where (and what) to make this change, so I am hesitant to try this by myself. If you provide some guidance, I would be willing to try it.

I had this problem too, when i start the game its says "Civ II has preformed an illegal operation" I check the files and found that the execution file didn't unzip. when I went to unzip it...it wouldn't. There's the problem, can you give us the answer?

You might try downloading the MGE patch for fixing the multi-player. I know it seems like an unrelated issue, but the patch altered some of the labels files and if there is a conflict, then it might shut down the way you've described. Try taking out the labels file from the scenario, put it somewhere safe, and then run it and try to play it. If it works, then my assumption is that this is the culprit and the mp patch for MGE should fix it for you. If it's not the labels, I'm at sea.

Sorry, WDHeisse, for not getting back to you sooner, been busy. I'll take a look at your pms, but do try moving the labels file first and tell me if that fixes it. Alternately, try removing each file, one-at-a-time, from the scenario, and then trying to run it. By a simple process of elimination, you can sometimes find the problem this way.

I have no answer at all why any files fail to unzip. I have never encountered this problem before.

I am exceedingly curious about this and will stay with you until we get it worked out.

Exile, your solution has solved my problem. I removed the label file and success. Downloaded the patch and everything seems to work fine.

To Exile and everyone else, thanks for all your help.

I still got a problem with the files though.
The exectution files labeled AgeOfWar still won't unzip, it says (my Winzip) that it is not a valid archive. What is my problem?

DN; not sure about your problem. About all I can think of to try is for you to pm me your email and I'll send you a copy of the scenario from here.

This could be a problem with your zip program, but, in the end, I must admit that I simply don't know.

Any advice from the experts with zip programs out there?
