I think a lot will depend on our not being attacked in the near future.

Good to see you found a lever to pry some techs out of the AIs :goodjob:

p.s. The Southern Wheat tile should be in play now. I haven't looked but Bejing's borders should have expanded at turn 60 or shortly thereafter. I think that should be enough for +5fpt in Shanghai.

Pre turn: Change workers in Shanghai to grow in 2. Change Beijing to Barracks. Change Nanking to Worker.

Turn 1: 1475BC. Garrison Shanghai to reduce lux to 0%.

IT: English started Sun Tzu.

Turn 2: 1450BC. Barb blocks settler. Luckily it's defended by a spear.

IT: Chartage extorts 25 and kills the barb.

Turn 3: 1425BC. Just find out that Nanking can't build worker as it's size 1. I must be high.

Turn 4: 1400BC. Beijing: Barracks -> Warrior. canton: Worker -> Worker

IT: Ottomans open diplomatic channels.

Turn 5: 1375BC. Settler moves to city location and opens hut: Currency. Beijing: change warrior to spear.

Turn 6: Tsingtao founded: build warrior.

Turn 7: 1325BC: Beijing: Spearman -> Settler.

IT: Babs start Hanging Gardens

Turn 8: 1300BC: Shanghai: Granary -> Settler. Nanking: Barracks -> Worker

Turn 9: 1275BC: Canton: Worker -> Barracks

Turn 10: 1250BC: zzz.

The Save

Guys let's settle locations 4, 7, 9 and 10 from the initial map and then get to ring two. Keep Beijing and Shanghai into Settler factory mode and the others in Barracks/Warrior/ Worker mode. Don't rush to buy Construction before Russia has it. We're OK even if we are backward.

I think I am up.
Will try to play tonight.

1. turn 1225 BC - Beijing settler --> warrior
Nanking worker --> warrior
Tsingtao warrior --> warrior
warrior from Tsintao moves to meet settler
sell WM for 7g

2. turn 1200 BC - Shanghai settler --> settler, goes towards settle spot 4
lone scientist in Shanghai disappears, science 10%
lux to 0
nobody wants our map

3. turn 1175 BC - Beijing warrior --> settler
Xinjian founded, set to warrior
Beijing spear moves to Xinjian
lux up to 10%
sell WM for 7g
no changes in techs of AI

IT - Carthage completes Sun Tzu
Babylonians complete Hanging Gardens
Babylonians start Leonardo's (they got invention)

4. turn 1150 BC - Chengdu founded, set to warior
sell WM for 7g

5. turn 1125 BC - Shanghai gets scientist, settler due next turn, science to 0%
sell WM

6. turn 1100 BC - Shanghai settler --> settler
Tsingtao warrior --> barracks
Nanking warrior --> worker
science 10%, lux 0
sell WM

IT - Greeks extort TM + 35g

7. turn 1075 BC - Russia now has construction, cheapest price for it is 300g from Carthage, will wait a little
sell WM

8. turn 1050 BC - Beijing settler --> spear
Xinjian warrior --> worker

9. turn 1025 BC - Canton barracks --> spear
Chengdu warrior --> worker
Dye now connected to Beijing
Hangshow founded, set to spear

IT - Japan extorts 38g + TM, cave in
Get Forbidden Palace message

10. turn 10000 BC - Shanghai settler --> settler

Leave settler and 1 warrior unmoved for next player to decide where to go
Sorry, I also leave all tech trading for the next player as I feel rather insecure in that area and do not want to screw up
Hannibal is cheapest and would part with contruction for 300g
We have 402g in the piggy bank and make 29gpt.
We have now 7 cities in 1. ring + 1 settler in position for No 8

Hope I didn't do too badly.

Yes, this is a tough one.
I think the lack of tradable resources and luxuries does hurt rather bad as well.

Yes, there is only 4 of each luxury/resource., and not much of that is close to the start. Without spoiling too much, I recomend some scouting around the start, to get a feeling of the layout.

Nice work. I think we should get to ring 2. Any suggestions about the distance? 8.5, 9, 10?

We should get Construction now (might be a late advice). Russia got a free tech and we and trade a two for one with them.

Don't worry about us being behind techwise. Landgrab is more important right now and we can defend pretty good due to the round shape.

I decided on 9 for ring 2.

I tried to post a dotmap for discussion but the forums were down and I'm going out in 3 hours so I just went with my best shot.

I'm currently at turn 5 and have our 1st 2nd ring city founded and the settler & escort en-route for the second (arrives just at the end of my turns.

For what it's worth, here's the dotmap I made:
Tark1_DotMap_1000BC.jpg

I chose 9 as it stretched our boundary while still keeping in touch with ring 1

Notes
Russia has a worker for sale but I leave the trading for the next player
I'm trying to build a ring road to join the first and second rings together. It seemd to be the most practical course.
All seems well and, hopefully, we should start picking up as the rest of the second ring is established.

The save is > here <

Good Luck

Ted

Ohh, slowly it starts to look a bit better for us.
The cities now come along quite nicely.
If we can complete most of the 2. ring we should be in good shape.

I wonder what the AI makes of this map.
The Cartheginians appear not to build at equal distances and therefore should have more corruption than we.

Re: AI sites,

I think the AI targets sites where resources will "appear" above any other consideration.

But... I may be wrong :)

BTW, thanks for leaving me a good setup.

Ted
p.s. As far as I know:

Roster

Betazed: Up
Yndy: On Deck
Shevek:
Ted Jackson: Chilling

Am I up? I didn't know that.

Anyway, Got it. Will play in a couple of hours.

I meant to ask this earlier but forgot :)

I bought slaves during my last turns to boost roading, mining, whatever and to reduce our treasury surplus (fewer demands from AI hopefully).

Anybody have a problem with this?

@ betazed
I just posted the roster as it was earlier.

Ted

Pre-turn : Change canton to Temple. We need the cow in range.

730 BC: Settlers move into position. I see a tech oppurtunity but resist since we are going to revolt soon and will not be able to support GPT deals.

710 BC: Macao founded. Anyang founded.

690 BC: We discover Republic. We revolt immediately. Make 27G from Selling WM.

670 BC: zzz

IT: Otto and Carthage sign MA against Cathy.

650 BC: zzz

630 BC: zzz

610 BC: Chinan founded.

590 BC: We are a Republic. lux to 20%. We are making 41 G/turn. Buy Engineering off Carthage for 230G 21G/turn. Get Feudalism from Japanese for ENgineering, 60G and 4g/turn. Cathy has just entered Middle ages. So get Monotheism from her for Feudalism, WM and 40G and 6 g/turn.

Net : Mono, Feud, and Engineering for 330G, 31g/turn. Not the best possible scenario but the best that can be done given the situation. I really wanted Engineering since all those rivers are hampering our movement.

Sorry to leave the next player almost bankrupt. :( But IMO, this had to be done otherwise we will fall too far behind in tech.

The AI is up, Theo (Osman has been building Sistine for some time now), Invention, Chivalry and Monarchy.

Next player can start a 40 turn research for Chivalry. However, I see no horses anywhere so I do not know what good that will do us.

570 BC: zzz

550 bc : zzz

The save

Got it.

No problem about leaving me bankrupt. You did a very good deal. Let's see how things evolve.

Pre-turn: Change Beijing to Marketplace; Change Shanghai to aqueduct. Change Canton to marketplace. Change Tientsin to Marketplace. Change Hangchow to Settler. Change nanking to Settler. Change Xinjian to worker. Change Xintao to Settler. Change all cities in ring two to workers.

I check for resources and see only 2 civs have horses - Chartage has them close too - and nobody has iron. Is this map more than we paid for?

IT: Greece declares war to Ottomans. Russia signs peace with Chartage. Chartagians and Babylnians are building Copernicus :shock:

Turn 1: 530BC: Cut lux by 10% for 10gpt. Hire an entertainer in Shanghai that can't grow above 6 anyway.

Turn 2: 510BC: Worker actions only

Turn 3: 490BC: Xinjian: Worker -> Marketplace. Greece now doubts they can sell us Invention for everything we have.

IT: It's confirmed. Chartage return with a leader from the front. Babylon finishes Leonardo. This should decrease the cost of invention.

Turn 4: 470BC: Nanking: Settler -> MArketplace. Anyang is at 8.5. We'll decide about it later.

IT: Hamurabi throws us out.

Turn 5: 450BC: Tatung revolts. Macao: Worker-> Worker. Push lux to 20%.

Turn 6: 430BC: Chengdu: Spearman -> Settler. Hangchow: Settler -> Marketplace. Kaifeng founded: Build Worker. Chinan is also at 8.5.

IT: Three civs ask me politely to leave their territory.

Turn 7: 410BC Chinan: Worker -> Worker

IT: Athens builds Sistine. Ur (Babylon) builds Bach's
Turn 8: 390BC Tsingtao: Settler -> Marketplace. Anyang: Worker -> Worker. Shantung: Worker -> Worker

The Sultan and the Shogun order us out of their countries. Istambul builds Copernicus.

Turn 9: 370BC Bejing: Marketplace -> Archer. Ningpo founded. Build worker. Invention now possible but price is huge.

Turn 10: 350BC Paoting founded. Build worker. Japan just got Invention. Russia has nothing we can use. Invention still too expensive for my taste.

Copernicus!!! :eek:

So the AI is up, Theology, Invention, Education, Astronomy. Not to mention non-mandatory techs, Chivalry and Music Theory.

And that is what we know definitely. For all we know they have Gunpowder, Physics and beyond.

At this rate, we will be a whole age behind. :(

Normally, I would not be worried. If we have horses and iron, I would pound out the techs from Carthage using RIders. But with no horses and no iron.... :mad:
