New Tech Icons

So, anymore "Future" tech icons down the pike Ukas? I still could use a good "Capital Starships" icon (Right now I'm using a picture of the Earth as an icon!)

I could use an image for Nanotechnology, Nanotech Construction, Combat Robotics, Anti-Gravity, and Advanced Space Flight, myself. I'm, uh, "borrowing" some DYP icons for them at the moment.

what is a "U-boot"?;) nice work.:goodjob:

thanks again all! :)

@bluebox: Hey, just let me know if you have any requests :D

@cldwarhist: Jeez you sound like the guy in Friends the tv serie! No, you're right, I should know this. First idea was to use some artifacts etc. but when I got the idea of this pic I just got carried away.

@Sword_Of_Geddon: in the next package there will be an icon with uss enterprise and battlestar galactica fighting

@Sims2789: U-boot is shortened from Unterseeboot which is German for submarine, used also by allies in world war 2 when talking about German subs. In second icon you can see a part of a silhouette of a German U-boot and the periscope crosshair is typical for only German subs. So, the icons are especially first U-boot icons, then something else.

@Zurai: those are techs I could use myself so they'll be here at some point. Patience, patience...

Its U-Boat actually. The Germans made extensive use of them during world war one, which they used(with great effect) to attack Allied shipping. They also saw use in World War 2, but by that time other nations also possessed a sizable Submarine Force.

Thanks for the Future Tech Icons Ukas. The plan actually is to get enough for an entire age  . This is due to my plan to eventually make Far Horizons "different" than almost every other mod in existence, by having the Imperial Age and Future Age as new time periods, instead of the Ancient and Middle Ages.

It is U-Boat in English, U-boot in German. :p :D

In the world war II the Germans were the country to use subs the hardest. In fact the German underwater navy sunk allied ships more in tonnage and in numbers than all other countries to use subs in ww2 combined. They also lost more than others and the German subs sunk more than 80% of the whole Kriegsmarine.

In numbers 2,828 ships, making 14.5 million tons.

US, British, Japanese, Italian and Russian Subs combined sunk close to 2,500 ships, less than 10 million tons in total.

The German U-Boats were not countered by the amount of allied subs, as those days subs really could not really fight against each others even if that movie 'U-512' makes it look like they could but better antisub weapons and tactics performed by Allied destroyers guarding convoys and also Allied Air Force.

But enough about U-Boots. You know, I been planning to join ancient times with the early middle ages and late middle ages, renaissance with industrial era to make the future possible. But I don't know. I'm more into futurism, than actual future.

Ukas.. it was U-571, not U-512 :D

Futuristic techpack by me. Ironclad icon feels a little like he doesn't belong, but what the hey. Had to include it since I forgot to post it last time. Space Flight icon should be name "very early space flight" tech.

Fave Fun,

Ukas

I saw the biplane, then the title underneath and thought: "What the...?!"
But I'm sure Ukas has a good reason for that. :D

54321 World War 1 Fighter Pilots.....IN SPACE!

Great icons Ukas! That Space Ships one is really something! I love that Combat Robots one to! And that Ironclads icon is quite good! I'll probably use that in Far Horizons as well(And use the current Ironclads icon for Naval Engagements)

Thankyou Ukas, the Tech Icon Wizard!

u-boot

U-boAt with a "A"

Thats my little perfecsionest touch

U-boot is correct, from the German point of view. "U-boat" is an English bastardization of "U-boot", which is short for "Unterseeboot", which is the german name for their WW2 subs. Look it up at Dictionary.com if you don't believe me (or Ukas, who posted an explanation earlier in this thread).

I sense some internation resentment from you Zurai!

If your speaking German fine, its U-Boot, but in english a boot refers to a shoe. Boat is the English word. But I must confess that I could care less whether people us either word, just as long as I know what people are talking about when they saw U-Boot(or Boat whatever, who cares)

I am not having a major point of interest here either, just arguing for fun. :D As you said the problem with U-Boot is that it does look and sound like U-Shoe in English - that is why it was 'translated' to English originally instead of just using it straight. Like with the words 'Hamburger', 'Pretzel' or 'Kindergarten'. For me giving names is not a big deal as I think it usually goes is like this: I make an icon, in haste I'll give it a first suitable describing name so I don't confuse it with other icons, post it here, you people download it and finally use it in your mods as graphics - and probably will name it how you like anyway.

terrific! now we can actualty tech-mod correctly

i like the spaceflight one.

Uh-ah! Brewing was the best tech ever created :D

Ukas - maaan, if there were Oskars for Civ3 modding - you were getting a dozen of 'em just for those icons :goodjob: :goodjob:

...and gravity engines are kick-a$$ !

hmm maybe i shall start making my own futuristic mode..
