I have just bought a new computer (i5 3.2-3.6Ghz 8gb ram, window 7 amd 7850) which should allow me to play some of the larger mods and large maps. Having never played this particular mod before I just had a couple of start up questions.

1. On the the GEM world map with the pre placed civs (bar the dutch and americans) should I be getting turn times of 30 sec right fromthe start?

2. In the first test game I played, I had some 'properties' comes up such as crime polution etc. However, after deciding on which map and civ I wanted to use I started a new game, and now none of these things are listed/present. Did I miss a tech activation on these, or is this somthing else.

Lastly, what a great theme song. I really cracked up with the line about montazooma, priceless.

Cheers

1 It is normal. On game restart turn times will be shorter becasue some things will be cached and made game faster.

2 Everything is correct. They will appear later.

No. Apart from turn 1 (which has all the civs calculating best city positions), you should be seeing 2 seconds maybe on GEM with that computer early on.

The properties are only listed if they have non-0 values, which on turn 1 they typically won't. However, you should be seeing at least some of them in your cities after playing a turn or two.

Thanks for the answers.

Yes the properties have appeared now, so good.

The turn times are definately in the order of 30 seconds (30 turns into the game). My computer is brand new, as is 2 hours old. Is there some optimization/settings I should be looking at to improve single core performance?

It's single threaded anyway. I can't think of anything that would cause the 'waiting for other civs' time between turns to be very large (at that stage of the game), so right now I'm at a loss as to what might be causing it. Can you clarify which version you are using (V27 or SVN)?

I am using v27. I have not touched the svn yet.

Edit. It seems that while the game is running my cpu is not running at anywhere near its max speed. Jusu loaded MSI after burner, and the max cpu load is 22% while game is running. This seems very low to me.

What other programs are running in the background? I'd bet you have a lot of unnecessary crap running, especially if you just got the computer.

Nothing of note (other then explorer) in applications, but there is a few of processes going, but nothing using much cpu. However, cpu usage is now going up to 100% during turn, but turns are still 27-30 second (timed this). I sure this has somthing to do with a new computer not set up real well, but I will see is turn times for RI (another big civ4 mod) are comparable, to try and isolate this problem.

2 seconds of turn time on a gigantic earth map ? really ? my computer is litte bit bether than this one and i never touch gigantic maps because of the huge turn times. if you have any trick to opimize my system to reach this spped please tell me.
ps:
i have set the energy savin option in windows to maxiumum performance and i have a few programs that clean my computer from data crap and deactivate memory consuming backround programs and i deactivate my anti virus program when c2x is running ( in this time i am not conested to the internet of course )
i use minimize ai turns viepoints, no storms and single unit graphics + i use the newest svn
the game seems to run faster witch revoulutions dissablet and no babarin civ activatet (even if there arent any new civilisations have emerged from babarians ore rebbels

There are a couple of options for processing the AI turns faster I thought. I keep forgetting to set them myself and can't remember what they are or if they are now on by default. However I have an older machine and turns at the beginning of the game are only taking a few seconds but then I am not playing on GEM.

2 seconds per turn AT THE START. It won't stay that way - shouldn't hit 30 though 'til classical or so.

Ah yes that's true. In BUG options set 'minimize AI turn times'. That should help somewhat, but it doesn't really explain 30 second turns at the start of the game.

Agreed, especially not with that hardware. Turns then should be 3 seconds max, and maybe 5 if the AI turn option isn't checked.

Went through and ticked the ai turn time reduction. Turn times went from 30 seconds to 5 seconds. I think that was it!! Will let you know how it goes. Thanks for all the help.

I was under the impression turning that BUG option on made the AI more "stupid" (I believe I read about this for other mods, however).

No, the calculations of the AI are still the same, but they are done in one big chunk without stopping for graphics in between.

Wow, that sounds rather odd if the AI turns minimize option is reducing it THAT much. Could you please post the save in the Bugs/Crashes thread?

The implication is hat he is extremely bottlenecked by graphical performance for some reason.

Yeah, but I don't remember at the time the difference being that great. For me when I first used the Minimize AI turns option it saved 30% of a turn time or so. Maybe something we've added since then has changed it.

I really dont understand why its not checkmarked as default after install. Only so players can navigate on map between the turns...?

As I said a few months ago: making this option a default would be a win for all the new players of this mod who dont even know the option exists.
