Hi folks. I am new to the GOTM and I am wondering if there is any place I can get old starting save files so that I can give them a go?

Hi. Welcome :wavey:

Go to the GOTM main web site. There you will find that the right hand column contains a drop-down menu where you can select any competed Civ4 or Warlords game. Select a game, and click Game Details to see the main release page for that game. At the bottom of the page you will find the download links for the starting saves. Start saves are locked to the assets they were defined with, so you will have to play the start saves in the original version of the Civ4 software, and also with the original HoF Mod version if that was requred.

Alternatively, if you do not want to play in the original version of Civ4orWarlords, or you don't want to use the HoFMod, you can click teh Results button for selected game. That will give you a link to the original WorldBuilder save for that game, and you can use that with any version of software, and with any mods you want.

Hi. Welcome :wavey:

Go to the GOTM main web site. ....

for some strange reason the link doesn't work. Looking at the text of your message, it should. This is the URL: http:gotm.civfanatics.net

Another question, if i want to play Civ4 GOTM12, do i need mod 1.61.008, or will a later mod work? I want to play the game the same way the competitors did. I can't seem to find where to download version 1.61.008.

I've fixed the url - it was missing the two slashes. Apologies.

To play GOTM 12 the way the competitors played:

Download and install HoF Mod 1.61.008 by going to the HoF Mod page. At the bottom of that page are links to all the previous versions. You can't use another version with the start file, only with the WorldBuilder file.

Download and double click the start file from the Release page. Choose Adventurer, Contender or Challenger class according to the level of difficulty you want.
