As we can now make any kind of transport without hassling with python/SDK, the only problem is how does the AI use them? Has anyone made a study of Land Transports or Transports that Transport Transports? I'll make one of my own, but it would be nice to compare results.

Also, and this might be of interest to others too, how can you make an unit go through water & land?


These popped into my mind because of two words: Crimson Skies ;)
 
Well, apparently the AI has no idea how to use land transports, for either aircraft or land units. Neither can you load an unit, which has units loaded inside it, into another unit. But if the 1st vehicle is empty, it's possible.
Another thing was that when the land transport was bombed (which didn't have any strength) the units inside took the damage. I'll have to test what an unstrengthed sea transport does, and what does a strengthened land transport.

Anyone want to take up the challenge of making the AI understand land transports? ATM I made them use the SEA_ASSAULT & SEA_ATTACK AI's, neither worked.
 
If the land transport has strength, it will be hit + any cargo will be hit in bombings.
If the sea transport hasn't got strength, it can't be bombed.
If the zeppelin (land unit, transports any aircraft) has UNITAI_ATTACK_SEA, it will move through land with the planes aboard IF it hasn't spawned inside a city. Unfortunately it won't use the aircraft inside. If given the UNITAI_CARRIER_SEA, the AI will disband it.
 
i've once added a hovercraft for land- and sea-transport, but the ai used it as guard for it's land- and sea-ressources...:rolleyes:
i've given it the UNITAI_ASSAULT_SEA....

it is thought for helicopters that they can go over sea and land but no ocean.
