New Unit: Achilles July, 12 2004

Hypaspist means "shield-bearer" in Greek.
Toxotai were archers and Peltai / Akontistai were javelinmen.

Maybe could you transform your Greek Swordsman into a Foot Companion.
To do this, it is necessary to change the Hellenistic helmet into the Bronze Beotian Helmet and the colour of the cuirass.
You can also transform it into an officer of Foot Companions with the addition of two plumes on the helmet.

You could also transform your Greek Spearman into an Hypaspist.
To do this, it is necessary to replace the cuirass with a tunic and the helmet with the Bronze Beotian helmet.

Maybe could you too add a long spear (called sarrissa) to the Foot Companions to transform them into Phalangites.

You're not going to replace KRYTEN's Phalangite and Hypaspist are you? :dubious:

That'd be EVIL!

I could make all those modifications... But I won't. :)

I've posted the civ-color shield version in the first post. You'll probably need the INI and Civilopedia images from the original since I didn't include them in this zip.

well... for me if the greeks are the only ones that will have it.. who cares about civ color...

IE FIRELANCER.. hard to tell but if chinese is the only civ who has it... there is NO mistake....
ill check it out anyway :)
You know.. ironicly you made/published/announced this post 1 day after i changed my saboteur to the Helot of the greeks....
i couldnt get the AI to use him right so i abandoned the idea of it... and changed it to the only "fighting slaves" i knew of... ATLEAST in that one battle... some name forgot...

greeks though.

Someone earlier asked what swordsmen where called in greece. Truth is although soldiers did carry swords they very rearly used swords instead favouring their 9foot spears to keep the enmy at a distance. So there is no name for swords man in ancient greek. But will undoubtedly find a name for a greek swordsman for the byzantine period as the byzantine where the greeks at the fall of the roman empire. :king:

By the way nice unit!! :goodjob:

Why not, this Greek swordsman is beautiful and could be a good starting point... ;)
I've downloaded Kryten's Phalangite, Hypaspist and Peltast but they aren't as beautiful as this unit... (sorry Kryten )

And I think that a Greek Swordsman existed before this one, no ?

Kinboat, what kind of 3D program do you use ?
Do you have a 3D model of your Greek Swordsman ?

ok, these greek guys can be the Mymirdons.

now what country is associated with the Trojan warriors?

.... but what country in CIV3 would represent Lycians (AKA, region it is in, race... um... decendents?)

Troy was in westernmost Anatolia (modern Turkey) in an area previously dominated by the Luvians, who themselves are cousins to the Hittites.

The Trojans themselves were Achaean Greeks, specifically Phrygians.

So they could be Greeks, Hittites, or (if you're not into the migration of populations, which is always hard to simulate in Civ) Turks or Byzantines, although these last two -- while valid later, geographically -- would be wildly inaccurate historically.

But that's Civ. ;)

i know there is a trojan horse.. but is there a trojan unit too?
what does a trojain look like?

Well see it's this small little rubber ring... I think I'll stop there :D

I still use 3DSMax for my modeling... What sort of files does OpenFX use? I can export the model in a number of different formats 3DS OBJ Not sure how the bones and materials will export though.

Kinboat's riffing aside ( :nono:  ) presumably like any other early Greek unit.

will this be logical then?

My mod/scenario is basicly a Chinese/Fantasy topic.

I plan to replace EVERY possible chinese unit with .. one of these guys chinese units.. EX. chin spearman/firelancer ect.

aside from that, i have fantasy units.. so far all futuristic (and there is a "future era" but no tech screen for it.. can anyone make one? if there is one... where?) with robots and stuff.. but still SEMI-believable... so dragon dreadnaught would not be part of it but the gattling mechas can be. or walkers of any sort.

then i have what is called the gift for the OTHER civs.

each civ is divided into this.... cultural link thing...
IE. asian, mediteranian, american, european.

each CULTURE LINKED civ will get a special unit (like a UU but its for any civ that is ex. asian, european)

Would myrmidon (this achilles unit) make a "accurate" special unit for all the mediteranian civs?
