New Unit: F86 Sabre

Has someone experienced the following problem: it seems the death anim doesn´t work correctly. I just tested the unit in-game. I simply overwrote the standard jet fighter (after backing up the original files) with the anims of the F86Sabre. Then, when my plane was shot down, it looked like there no death anim - or at least at such a high speed that it was nealry invisible.

I´m a bit confused about it - the length of the death anim is 15 frames, exactly like the normal jetfighter death anim. All setting in the .ini files (eg. the speed values) are unchanged... :confused:

No error message, just it doesn´t seem to play the death anim (or at least not correctly)...:(

The other anims seem to work fine.

Ok, it seems I fixed this :)

I added two frames to the death anim, splitted in into multi flc anims and changed the "anim time" value then - looks much better in-game now IMO.

I recommend to download the complete updated zip from the first post of this thread again, it is only ca. 180kb big.

Try this. I don't know why it works, but it does. I just trimmed the blank end frame, and now the anim seems to run fine. :confused:

I also included an INI with the attack sound changed from the Jet Fighter to the Fighter. The machinegun sounds works better I think.

EDIT: Oops, missed the last post.

Oh, thanks :)

Although this was never built, it was one of the vehicles "in development" at the end of the war (check out a site called Luft 46 for more details -if you can find it).
It looks very much like the sabre and mig 15, the difference being in the tail fins (note that this is just one of the many designs produced in gemany at the end of the war, the one that looks most like the sabre- many of the others are more strange).

You have to remember that it can take 5 to ten years for a military design to progress from theory through testing to mas production. The british and americans were already working on jet designs like the meteor in 1943; The russian jet program was not so well advanced, but capturing the few me262s remaining when germany surendered and the added bonus of capturing berlin gave them a great boost; the reason thet the mig15 looks so much like this german design is probably because the russians used the german jet degn research to jump start their own program.

I'm making the german jet in a sort of neutral colour scheme right now, and will post it tomorrow.

Yes; basicaly the design for the first jets was a simple cigar shape, just a jet engine with wings. It was also found that the planes needed swept wings for lift at high speed and improved aerodynamics.

It realy a very simple design, the only real difference being how you set up the rear wings and how you mount the guns. The me262 was almost the same design, but with two smaller engines mounted on the wings; This was a design based on the theory of jet planes and the experience of piston engine craft; Later machines would be based on years of jet plane experience.

finished all the rendering for the german jet; gonna make the animations now. Hopefully one of these days I may get around to making my post wwii alternate history mod; Jets like the sabe, mig15 and this german desing would be perfect for it.

Speaking of German aircraft that didn't make it into the war...

Somebody should make this one, its the Ho-IX (Horton IX)
a prototype jet fighter the Germans were developing during WW2. I read on one site that they had a small number of oprational ones at the end

Some of those luft '46 designs are so great; I may well make some of them, or at least developments along the same lines for my scenario. Of course they need to fit in with a general unit progression- What do you think the HO IX equates to in other national air forces? The ME1101 is now finished, air units are so simple and nice; almost a relaxing experience. :)

Great Job Bebro :goodjob:

I cant wait for the MiG 15 so that the F-86 can have something to fight against :).

I'd most likely use it as a german replacement for the Jet Fighter, seeing as it used jet engines. It was being created to intercept allied bombers. At least thats what I understand from playing Medal of Honour: Frontline:rolleyes:

Its funny, the horten wing seems to owe more to tank fighting expeience than air craft design; You see when it aproached you it would have a very small thin outline, very difficult to aim at, ony as it passed (at more than a 500 mph!) would the outline become more of a target, but of course it was still a sub-sonic fighter- designed for attacking an air force that lacked its own jets. If you were a piston engine craft or a gunner in a America bomber the HO-IX would have been very difficult to shoot down, but for another jet, aproaching from behind and above the flat outline of the plane would provide an inviting target!

I found an answer to why the sabre looks so much like the Me1101. Here is a picture of a 70% complete me1101 found by the americans at the end of the war;

... and here is a reverse engineered Me1101 with american colours, The sabre was almost a direct decendant of this plane, with the russians following a similar line of development;
