New Unit: Global Terrorist

Man, this thread always get conjured from the past. I made the Unit not to offend but wanted to add the aspect of "terrorism" or modern asymmetic warfare. a global terrorist unit with hidden nationality that can strike you whenever and can be used by even the weakes AI powers can make it challengingin the late game as you try to hunt down the Civ with the improvement that automatically makes them. Atleast thats how I added them.

As forethe Arab flavor. again, that wasnt to offend but I chose the arab look at terorist on the same principles that Firaxis picked the Abrams as the modern Armor. THe group that best perfected a type of warfare. Like it or not, Arab non-govt organizations (Al Qaeda specifically) have maximized the possibilities of this type of warfare.

As the final disclaimer, if you dont approve of the unit, please dont download it.

I think making Abu Bakr the model is sorta silly....that seems to be going out of the way to make the unit piss people off in my opinion. I don't think any of the 9/11 bombers were wearing robes and turbans when they boarded the flights.

The unit itself is not racist or offensive, but some of the things that people have said in this thread are rather disturbing. You can take any random quote from any holy book (yes that absolutely includes the Christian Bible) and try to use that one line to pass off a religion as intolerant. It just doesn't wash.

The existence of Jews and Christians is no more offensive to Muslims than the existence of atheists is to Christians. Sure, it bugs the fanatics but for the most part its not a big deal. Also the idea of the muslim world being 'humuliated' by the west....well I think the billionairies in the gulf states would laugh at you if you said that to their faces. Many muslims have gotten very rich off the western world. But its only the angry ones we ever hear about on western media. Hmmm wonder why that is?

If you make this unit hidden nationality and give it the 'capture' function and check 'offensive' the AI WILL build it. Whether it will affects the odds of the AI using nukes? I don't know. If anyone knows I would like to hear your input.

New Idea -

Fundamentalism Small Wonder

Creates a Terrorist Bomber every 20 Turns

Bomber Unit is a hidden nationality nuke using this threads graphics.

This would ensure that it could not happen too often, but it would add a lot to the game

I added or modded in Modern Fundamentalism and Modern Despotism as governments in my game.

Modern Fundamentalism can build very cheap 'Technicals' or trucks with guns that are fast and hit hard but are very weak defensively. No modern armor though. And also the terrorist stealth units that cost a lot to build and maintain but are non-nationality. So if you use them you give up alot of maintenace that could be used else where.

Modern Despotism is the warlord states with outdated armor but gets the 'Technicals' and local miltiamen. Lots of extra free support so balances out bad 50% science with massed cheap units.

Very dangerous for oppenents hopelessly behind in tech but can overwhlem with massed numbers.

Good tidbits. I made terrorist camps and Bases etc of varying levels that produce these units. It becomes a hunt to find where they are produced.

What did you use for technicals?

I've decided to let these two units be, for now. My concern is that much like using a black figure to represent a "slave" unit, these portray Arabs as terrorists.

Well- if you feel talented enough to make a new unit as err- unique (yes, that's it) unique as the pimp one you can always open a new thread

Don't get me wrong - I don't claim to have even a fraction of the talent the guy who made The Pimp had! I'm just saying that the SPAM in The Pimp thread was at least (or supposed to have been) humourous. After one year, this SPAM has no redeeming value.

Hey, would this be a counter for Kinboat's excellent James Bond unit?

I really like the Bond unit but haven't found a good way to work it into the game. Let Bond hunt down the hidden nationality terrorists.

bond is generated from INTEL. agency.


bond is used to kill (if you have him) utahjazz's separatist or yes.. terrorist.

they all have hidden ID.

bond is more powerful but both terrorist and sep ect. have equal movements.

Like I said back on the first page, if you have a problem with the Arab-Terror stereotype, you can use the separatist, resistor, a variety of graphics instead. But the bottom line is this: If you like the unit, use it. If not, go find something else.

I've got an idea. You can do what the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) News does and call them "extremists". Then the guy can blow stuff up, we don't condemn him morally for it and we can all move on.
