Hello everyone! This is my first post to this forum. I have used and abused several units from here and I thought to give something back.

I made this unit because I couldn't find suitable self propelled howitzers anywere else. This is primarily designed to be used in epic game since this is sort of a mixture of SP-Howitzer features (SO-122, M109...), though could be used in scenarios as well.

I have already noticed small faults in the animations but didn't have enough motivation to fix them. Maybe later...

I'd like to have feedback from those who bother to try this...

PS. I don't know how to put an image in to this...

Not bad at all! A Paladin, right?

Eh...Right and wrong ;) . It's a blended packet. I tried to draw a vehicle which is really not any spesific "real" vehicle and also many of them :crazyeye: . Weird eh?

It's just that in the epic game all civs are using this same unit so it shouldn't be an american or soviet (russian now) design but more like both of them.

I don't know if I accomplished my goal but I'm pretty happy about the result anyway.

Thank's for the comments :)

it could be a generic self-propelled arty piece for all civs outside of the US and USSR/Russia; at least this is how i would envision it for TCW.

i would love to see what it looks like (not at my home PC)...

Sounds I used were taken from other units in game. Could be more creative but this is also my first unit so I had pretty much to do anyway.

Here's my C&C about this unit.

It looks like a russian 122mm SP artillery rather than a M-109 Paladin.

What I don't like about it is the Firaxis type bounciness. You may try on your next unit to use a darker civ-specific color to start off with because it coming out too bright.

Other than that it's really good especially because it's your first unit. You did a really good job with the palletes, especially the smoke/fire colors. It doesn't clash at all with the default civ stuff. I agree with El Justo, the texture is a little grainy or washed out but it's your 1st and you show great promise. For future units, try using more animation frames to smooth out the motion better.

GJ.

You right about the look. I guess I was more influenced by the "Gvozdzika".

I my self wasn't very pleased about the colours either but i think the problem was with the 3d program I used (had a terrible time with the lights).

The bounciness...well all the other units bounce too so I thought this should too otherwise it would have been an "odd bird" among the others

Thanks for your opinion Wyrmshadow!

Very Good. a Nice SPG that fits in well with the firaxis stuff. In the future, howeverm please put the date in the thread title.

very nice first unit. Very nice 3rd or 4th unit, for that matter.

My comments for future consideration would be about the colors.
I see a grey outline around the unit. Also the color palette is a bit light, this makes the unit look slightly washed out in comparison to the tank it is sitting next to; I think the palette is responsible for the slight grainy appearance.
Also this gray-fade look has the effect of reducing the evident contrast, for example on the wheels.

I don't mind the bounciness; since as you pointed out, it helps it fit in with the other units. Also the bounce is not so noticeable in game as it is in flicster.

For large files, you can post parts (like the sound files) seperately, or you can use a filehost like I do. I use civ3files.com and just link to the files. Check on any of the items in my sig to see what I'm talking about. Also, if you are using sounds from built in units, you can just edit the ini file so they point to those files and not worry about it.

What 3d program did you use?

Pretty darn good for a first unit.

I agree with Wyrmshadow on the bounciness (a bit too bouncy in the default animation - the run-bounce is terrific though :goodjob: ) and civ-colour (a bit too much on the light side).

And it's nice to have another fellow finn unit-maker :)

I made it with 3dsmax and right now I'm searching for better tutorials for the light issues.

Thanks for your comments. Those advises came handy so I'll start new project. Don't know yet what it will be though but its for the epic game anyway :mischief: .
