new unit: modern infantry

Thanks again!

How you use the unit in the game is totally up to you.
I made this complete package for those who just want to have a new unit in the game without having to learn all this editing stuff.

There are more sounds for the same animation. (It´s all said in the readme file)
This will give some variety to the unit when it is used in several mods.
The filesize is so big because I had to include the modern_science picture (unzipped about 750kb), plus one additional victory animation and the sound for it, plus the pedia text file.

shramj:
Of course you can use this unit as a base for a new unit (also said in the readme). Just give proper credit for the original creator(me).

Incubus0223:
It´s 3dmax I use. I learned a lot during the creation of the unit so I´m not a pro.
Nevertheless, there is some practice behind this unit.

Hey does your unit work with other mods? The way it's set up it looks like you can only run it off it's own BIC.

I'm trying to run it with the Double Your Pleasure mod but when I go to open the regular Civ3 Bic, I get no sign of Modern Infrantry, even though I placed all the files in the corresponding folders.

Seems like it might be an issue with the unit32 file as yours is very scaled down compared to the DYP mod's which has all my fave guys..Gunships, Elite Troops etc...

;)

milesman,

I am planning on using this unit for the SpecOps unit in DyP. The only problem is that since there is no paradrop animation for this unit we will be using the green paratrooper animation for the paradrop.

Allow me to submit what I consider a far, FAR superior attack .wav for this unit. I think you'll agree, that just like the unit graphics, the new attack sound kicks major amounts of ass...

NOTE: This file has the A removed at the end of the filename before the extension - be sure to adjust your .ini accordingly, or rename this file with an A at the end before the extension (you'll have to delete your existing WAV if you do).

P.S. I'm using this unit as Light Infantry, 8/8 treat all as roads... great unit, a little pricey, and not ready for heavy combat, but it can be a great infiltrator as well as mop up/incursion unit...

'far too many'

Why don't you actually TRY it and see for yourself. The sound is perfectly synchornized with the gunfire action, and there are hardly 'too many' shots fired. The unit appears to shoot a burst of two rounds (one could argue three based on body effects, but only two spent shells are apparent, so we'll just agree on two). The wav is a quick burst of three rounds, followed by two. BOTH bursts are synced perfectly, and look sound totally natural for the action. If anything, there is only ONE extra round, as opposed to 'far too many rounds', and if you had actually tried it, you'd have known.

God it pisses me off when people don't even bother TRYING the thing before mouthing off.

if you had actually tried it, you'd have known.

I get pissed off when people mouth off based on their feeble, unfounded assumptions.

Actually, I did try your attack .wav with Balou's unit. Unfortunately, I just don't share your exalted opinion of the "superiority" of your .wav file.

Out.

Then you could state your preference for the original one without making an asinine statement about 'far too many'. If you like the official Daisy Red Ryder BB-gun with a compass in the stock and this thing that tells time sound effect that came with the unit, by all means, knock yourself out.

I don't like chocolate ice cream, but I don't protest that it's poisonous or any other unfounded, hyperbolic statement such as yours above re: 'far too many'. What is far, one? So, for the record - Polaris likes the original .wav. Okay. Polaris also has a learning disability because he cannot properly deal with the ten base numbering system and discern between numbers that are proximate and number that are 'far too many' apart...

My my, aren't we awfully tightly wound up over our little .wav file. Here's a tip for you son that may help to prevent you from getting banned from this forum as well. When you submit your work to a public forum, be prepared for criticism and comments. Learn to tell the diference between a critique of your work and a personal atttack. From your last two posts, it is painfully obvious that you have yet to grasp this concept and the only response your dull intellect can manage is to lash out with personal insults. How pathetic. Grow up and stop acting like such a cry baby.

Question for Polaris - is 5 'far too many' when compared with 4? If 5 is far too many, what is just too many, 4.5? I full well expect people to prefer their wav, my wav, another wav, a wav of Arnold Ziffel, so be it. However, your original statement is prima facie vastly overstated.

What's painfully obvious is that you've clearly made an assertion that is techincally indefensible. Don't like the wav? Who cares. I don't. However, if you didn't like my mom's chocolate cake I would'nt care any less, unless you said she put 'far too many' sardines in it, or some other demonstrably bogus claim...

P.S. The .wav is hardly 'my work', rather something I found that fit a bit better than what was delivered...as such I really am not bothered by a critique of it. Rather, your loony assertion that it had 'far too many' is simply wrong. If you'd used it, you'd see and hear it was wrong. I suspect you counted the shots in the wav, and then counted the spent shells, and then made you assertion that the five shots didn't fit with two spent shells, not realizing that the sounds fit two full animation attack cycles, synchronized...

Thisismysn20 - try a light infantry with treat all as road, 1 movement, strength maybe a little less than normal infantry...I think you'll get the type of gameplay you're looking for...

Okay Venger, you've had your Pathian shot. Why don't we heed W.i.n.t.e.r.'s advice and just agree to disagree since this tit for tat profits no one. Agreed?
