New Unit Renault FT17

Ahhh, What version o DYP? I am running .80 still to finish my scenario, but intend to load the latest tonight. Thank again Zulu.:D

This is the best early tank design unit around - apologies to SM on his great work, but this is simply perfect. I added it long ago to my mod pack. I've renamed the existing tank as improved tank, and added this as the basic tank, no resources. I've seen it in action - wonderful. Perfect.

Has anyone ever done any pedia icons or text for this awesome unit?

Btw, Kinboat, love your units, did you ever get around to doing the American FORD1918?

hmm forget I asked about the pedia icons. My bad. That will teach me to look in the zip file before I ask!

Nope I kind of skipped the FORD1918... I figured it never saw action, wasn't made in any numbers (I think only 2 were made), and the Americans used the Renault FT17 during the war and recieved about 20 of the British MKIV tanks after so they could use either of these as their unit... I'm currently using the MKIV as the generic early tank and then the AV7, RenaultFT17, and the Lancia ICM as the replacements for their respective countries. I'm sort of stopping making units because of time constraints etc. My last unit (at least for a while) will be the German Leopard 2, which I only have the death animation to go. But if I ever get time to do more I may look at the FORD1918 again.

Its O.k venger I love this unit too, in the default game of Civ III theres only realy enogh room for an early tank and a medium tank with a heavy/advanced tank between that and the modern armour, but in industrial era scenarios you should be aware that light tanks such as the t26 came imediatly after the renault (the Russsian predecessor to the t26, the t18 was nicknamed the "russian renault" because thats basicaly what it was). At the start of WWII in 1939 most advanced nations had t26 type light tanks while those that had fallen behind had renault type tanks; poland for example had a tank force made up almost exclusivly of renault ft17s.

Not only are smoking mirror and kinboat awesome animators, they are both a fountain of interesting information.

Where do you guys learn all of this? Do you just do a lot of reading?

Btw, Kinboat, I hope you do finish your leopard 2 tank. It looks incredible. :goodjob:

Yeah I do a lot of research (on the internet mostly) before I really start modeling a unit. And I enjoy reading history books too. I will be finishing it, there's only one animation left to do :)
