The best thing I can recomend is the strategy guides, at http://web.archive.org/web/20090513...tegy_guides#Rhye.27s_and_Fall_of_Civilization

The civ specific walk throughs feel a bit like spoilers to me, but I could not hope to win without them. There is a stability guide there, but it is pretty involved.

I am not even slightly an expert, but here are some points that I feel are important:

Stability:

Think about where you put your cities. Look at the settler maps here and try and put cities on the green squares and not the red ones.

Avoid more revolutions that absolutely necessary.

Keep a steadily growing empire, rather than a boom and stagnate one.

General:

Start with easy civs. Holland, england and Japan are generally considered easy ones I think.

Make sure you build enough workers.

Focus on the UHV goals (if you are going for that) above "normal" empire management.

If at first you do not succeed, try try and try again ;)

Just recently found RFC. Played a few games (BTS, with Vanilla RFC). Current as Arabia - huge modern empire, question on civics as they relate to empire stability. I have read all the strategy from wayback archive from rhye.civfanatics.com.

Obviously the stability is malleable -- I brought my cities ranking from 2 to 5 stars just by building jails everywhere after reading that at rhye.civfanatics.com and my economy is steadily growing. Presumably expansion is stuck at 1 star because I am so far out of the historical stability maps...and thus it is important I maximize the stability from civics and diplo.

(One other question: did older versions of RFC give a numberical value for these as I have seen in screen shots? My version says no updates when I check.)

Civics: have had > 20 turns with all modern with US/FS/Emanc/FR, FM, and resettlement. But my stability civic is stuck at 2 stars???

Is it that Arabia doesn't like the modern civics, or does Free Market, not having commonwealth have that big of an effect?

How about the diplo ranking? Also stuck at 2 stars
I purposefully gave money and techs to make rivals like me, out of 9 rivals have 4 friendly and 2 pleased, and per instructions signed 2 defensive pacts and OB with all except 2.

Other issue which I can't find easy answer to is dynamic civ names. I only see the short ones but want the long ones. My Screens\CvMainInterface.py seems to have only getCivilizationShortDescription(0) instead of getCivilizationDescription(0) as per
(see here)

Happy New Year CFC

Newer versions give numerical values for stability. :)
Download here.

Thanks DC

I did see that link before I posted, but this link ultimately seems to point to this, which is 8/2007. I bought the game in 12/2011, and don't understand if that link is truly what is needed to update my game. I have BTS 3.19, and the RFC.ini file is dated 5/14/2009 (again so I is the 8/2007 download right)? I also don't know if there is an in-game to check the RFC version number (but I take your point that if numbers in my stability and dynamic civ names are not appearing that may indicate older version).

It is the correct link. Ultimately, the base version of RFC was posted in August 2007, so that is the number you are seeing. Beyond the Sword is packaged with an outdated version of RFC. Version 1.187 is the last update Rhye ever made, and IIRC that was sometime in 2011, so that link is perfectly valid.

Thanks, going to download as soon as wife finds my laptop with Civ.....

BTW, I'm reading below that download, do I just delete/replace all the existing mod/RFC files with those from the download?

The new download worked -- thx DC -- very easy

Just got my first RFC win (monarch Egypt)!

Getting music is almost impossible (now mathematics is a requirement?), so I went Caste System and hired 7 artists.

Which with ~70% odds, getting an artist worked

Also built Parthenon and Leaning Tower in capital, and the pressure is onto Ethiopia (I probably will continue after UHV and see what happens; obviously I have to deal with the Impis)

But my stability as Egypt was -31...so can anyone help with my stability questions above?

It's been a long time since I've played RFC, but if I remember correctly Egypt gets large stability hits for being out of its historical timeline (As in, surviving for too long).
As for Arabia, it would be the historical timeline and your expansion into foreign areas. What civics were you running?
