newb lookin' for a challenge

O.G. civII can be converted to MGE, but its not something I can commit to, others (in the fam) play civ as well, though none of them wish for me to convert anything,so I am stuck with only TOT,at least untill I get my own computer back.

try to copy civ2 in other folder, and then convert it to Civ2 MGE
in the civfanatics download there are the files to convert it, and then download the patch to play without CD

Downloading is not an option ATM, for any reason. Example: I downloaded a patch for TOT a few weeks ago and it started a bug in my game, so the others that play civ were assed out untill I got it fixed. (it may still have the bug were not sure yet).

I am not computer literate and something as simple as what you explained sounds very complex to me. I would just rather not get into downloading and converting things.

I wish more people were on-line trying to play civ rather than posting in the forums or playing PBEM.

Thanx for trying though, I'm glad someone at least posted here........ finally.

Thanx for the links, I've been to those too. They seem to be plagued with the same problems though.
I will just have to resort to playing with people I know when they are at my house.(House rules democracy).
There are just too many different version out now, making it hard for someone to have all they need to play, I was mistaken on the difficulty, of trying to find people who are on-line playing.
I figured there would always be a game in progress to join, but this is obviously not the case.

Hmmmmm. they have a conversion for TOT? interesting.

I'll hang around a bit then and see what happens.

Well to be honest, I dont know. Untill you said you were downloading TOT extension, I had no idea anything like that even existed.

I do know that TOT has alot on it(in it) and if there is a download extension then there is probably a patch to run it without the disk,I just have no idea where it would be. I have looked around the download section but that particular question never came up before. I will browse through the download section and see what I can find.

YES, YOU ARE RIGHT, i downloaded the last version, but not the "Convert to TOT", i got cold when i see that, did you get the TOT by downloading in internet or buying in thge market???

I found it at wal-mart(market) in the marked down section, I think I only paid 10.00 U.S. to get it. But its getting hard to find.

I did'nt even know at the time that there was anything called MP, so you can probably guess that I do'nt know too much.

I'd have to re-install ToT and play it a while before I felt comfortable with it.

Wow, after all these years, I finally clicked into the multiplayer. Asked me for the "IP address" to 'whatever' game. I don't even know what an IP is.

However, what would I do at this point if I DID know what I was doing?????:crazyeye:

The IP address is used to contact other computers, in other words you need my IP# if you are going to try and connect with my computer. All IP's are different for each computer, some computers give you a new IP every time you play, others have the same number every time.
Basically a person could start a civ game while on-line, and select the option open game (or something like that) then others can join the game already in progress. So you could be playing a game and have someone join in and take over an A.I. city,I would still rather start gmae from scratch.....but I'll take what I can get.

If you post your IP# for me(or send it via PM) then we would be set.

........TOT in original game format only has improved graphics compared to civII. so there isnt much to learn.

BT,
How do I determine what my systems IP is?? Is this written in the owners manual?

Any chance you can do as Dario suggested above with Civ in a seperate folder, then convert it to MGE with the patch? I'd really like to get a game going, yet you appear to be the only one interested in an MP game.

With the IP... then I guess we'd simply 'coordinate' which times we'd both be on line? I know when I looked at the MP yesterday (first time ever) it had asked for an IP... in this example, presumably, I'd enter yours at the specified time? Then the computers would interact?

Damn, that sounds good. Playing against a human opponent would DRASTICALLY alter the scope, and strategy, of the game!!!

o.k here you go. IP#(for current game plans is):12.74.140.41
type that in after you select "join a game" it will be a TOT game.

the number is not mine but someone elses who is starting a game on saturday the 27th, at 10a.m. pacific time.

I am sorry to say that I do'nt even know how to begin copying things into folders and such. What I do know is how unsafe it is for me to attempt it.

The IP# presents itself after you start a multiplayer game. The comp will ask you to verify your IP address, the number highlighted is your number,if you are joining a game you would simply input the host computers IP address in this slot. This is how TOT works....I do'nt know about other versions.

We who are playing have yahoo IM can you accomidate this? The other player is also in the CST(central time zone). Judging from your location in your avatar you are in the same place

I believe that'd be about 12:00PM my time. Should work out. How long are you guys going to play? Two hours, three? Do we each save the game? Lot's of questions, perhaps we should email direct?

Anyway, I will try to get time to re-install ToT, play with it a quick minute, and then see if I can 'find' you guys (I won't hold my breath, what with my computer skills).

What scenario are you guys going to play?
Info, info, info, info, info!

Spill.

No scenario just straight up civ. I have a problem with TOT right now: My version is 1.0 and the other player is version 1.1 so we cannot connect to each other right now, I am looking for the 1.1 patch so we can play together. I suggest you do the same, then we will be ready for saturday.

Alright I downloaded version 1.1 so I should be all set. I thought I had already done this, it must not have worked the first time.

Well, I just installed TOT. I like it about as well as I did when I first got it, years ago (of course, I didn't give it away as I did with Civ III). Perhaps it's the bomb, but I'm just not used to it. It seems slower, and I didn't find the graphics better, as you'd said!

1.) Anyway, for the life of me, I've no freaking clue as to what version it is. Where/how do I find this info?????

2.) Also, followed the manual on determining the 'IP' address. Unfortunately, I'm running on the XP system, so the manual doesn't help. How would I determine this info?????

3.) In case I might need it, where'd you locate the 1.1 version patch?????
